M Thank you. This is my first time to come to a Chinese restaurant. Could you tell me the different features of Chinese food?

W Generally speaking, Cantonese food is a bit light; Shan dong cuisine is a little salty; and Si chuan dishes are very spicy, having a strong and hot taste.

M Chinese dishes are well prepared and yummy. They are good in color, flavor, and taste. W Mr. Liu, would you care for another helping? M No more, thank you. I'm quite full. W Did you enjoy the meal?

M It's the most delicious dinner I've ever had. It's such a rich dinner. Thank you very much. W That’s all right. I'm so glad you like it. Text 9

W I heard that you were busy preparing this year’s Campus Film Festival, right? M Yeah, Andrea. You are interested in that?

W I don’t really know about that. Can you tell me something about the festival?

M Sure. It was started by our Students’ Union years ago and has grown every year. It is held over 4 nights during study break. The films are normally shot by students from different universities.

W Cool! Then who picks the film?

M It’s up to the organization committee to decide.

W Last year I went to do some of the films in the festival and especially liked the video interviews. How does that fit in?

M We set up cameras in the passage of the theatre and did live interviews during break. Anyone from the audience could come up and talk about the film.

W Can I ask another question? All the films are from universities in our country, aren’t they?

M Not exactly. We occasionally choose some films from foreign universities. The words on the screen are translated into Chinese so that everybody can understand the context.

W So how much does a ticket cost?

M It only costs¥10 for the students in our school and ¥15 for others. Text 10

Advertisements often encourage us to believe that because someone has been successful in one field, he should be regarded as an authority in other fields. The advertiser knows that there are certain people we admire because they are famous sportsmen, actors or singers, and he believes that if we discover that a certain well-known personality uses his product, we will want to use it too. This is why so many advertisements feature famous people. Advertisers may try to make us want a product by suggesting that most people, or the \to be inferior to others and these advertisements suggest that you will be unless you buy the product.

If you keep talking about something for long enough, eventually people will pay attention to you. Many advertisements are based on this principle. If we hear the name of a product many times a day, we are much more likely to find that this is the name that comes into our head when the shopkeeper asks \brand?\this way,he has helped to make the choice for us.

So he climbed up to the top, where the branches were thin. He managed to pick up a few sweet reddish fruits, but, in an attempt to climb down, he slipped and started falling towards the ground. Fortunately, he caught the branch as he was falling and remained helplessly hanging on the tree. Then he started to call nearby villagers for help. They immediately came with a ladder and sticks, but could do little to help him.

Then after some time one calm and thoughtful person arrived - a well-known sage who lived in a simple hut nearby. People were very curious to see what he would do, as he was famous in solving many people’s problems in the area and sometimes very complicated ones.

He was silent for a minute and then picked up a stone and threw it at the hanging man.

However, the rescued man found the sage gone. He stood there, realizing that the man really helped him because he induced him to try his best and save himself. “I should be thankful and not angry.”
