The tradition of celebrating Mid-Autumn festival became popular throughout China in the early Tang dynasty.The lunar August 15 is a day for people worshiping the moon. On this day, under the dazzling bright moon, families reunite and enjoy the moon’s beauty. In 2006, Mid-Autumn festival was listed as one of China’s cultural heritage, and in 2008, it was classified as a public holiday.Moon cakes, as indispensable delicious food of the festival, were gifts people sent to families and friends during the festival and usually eaten on family gatherings. There are characters of “longevity”, “good fortune” and “harmony” on the traditional moon cakes.

The world-renowned/famous Silk Road is a series of routes connecting the East and the West. Extending more than 6000 kilometers, the Silk Road gets its name from the ancient Chinese silk trade.The Silk Road trade/Trade on the Silk Road played an important role in the development of civilizations of China, South Asia, Europe and Middle East. It was through the Silk Road that four great ancient Chinese inventions of papermaking, gunpowder, the compass and the printing were introduced to the world.Likewise, Chinese silk, tea and porcelain were also spread throughout the globe. The exchanges of material culture went both ways, with Europe also exporting a wide range of goods and plants through the Silk Road to meet the demands/needs of the Chinese market.

Many people enjoy/like Chinese food. In China, cooking is considered/looked upon as an art as well as a skill. The carefully/well-prepared Chinese food is both delicious and good-looking(not only delicious to eat but also beautiful to look at).Although cooking methods/techniques and food ingredient vary wildly in different places of China (across the country), it is common for good cuisine to take color, flavor, taste and nutrition into account. (Good cooking does have something in common. It always take into account color, flavor, taste and nutrition)As food is crucial/vital to health, a good chef/cook is insistently trying/striving to seek/strike a balance between cereal, meat and vegetable, and accordingly (so) Chinese food is delicious as well as healthy (both delicious and healthy).

With full speed development of the information technology, Chinese citizens pay more and more attention to it. Some schools even run a required course on information technology, on which people comment differently/of which people have different opinions.Some people argue that it is unnecessary to do so since students are supposed to take traditional courses . Others, however, hold that the offer of this course is a must and that China should keep pace with the times/be abreast of the
times.Anyhow, it is a good thing that importance is attached to information technology.

Recently Chinese Academy of Science published a series of annual reports about its latest scientific findings and the prospect of the next year. The reports consist of three parts: science development, high technologies development and the China’s sustainable development. The first part includes the latest findings by Chinese scientists, such as the research of new particles and the breakthrough in the study of H7N9 virus. Furthermore, it highlights some problems needed to be focused on in the next few years.The second one announces/releases some heated fields in applied science, for instance, the 3-dimension printing technology and the study of artificial human organs. The third one appeals to people to enhance/strengthen the top design so as to get rid of the structural obstacles in industrial upgrading/level-up and to promote energy-saving/conservation and emission-reduction.

The Han dynasty is one of the most important dynasties in Chinese history with numerous remarkable achievements during its rule. It was the first dynasty to open the door to other cultures through its flouring/prosperous foreign trade. The Silk Road explored/built/initiated by the Han Dynasty led to Central and West Asia and even Rome. Various forms of art thrived during the Han Dynasty with the emergence of many great works on literature, history and philosophy. The first dictionary in China was compiled in 100 A.D. , which included/embodied 9000 words, provided meanings and listed different ways/styles of writing. In the meanwhile,. great progress was made in science and technology with the invention of paper, water clocks, sundials and the devices used to detect earthquakes. The Han Dynasty lasted 400 years, but the corruption of its rulers led to its ruins/downfall/collapse.
