voice over:The old woman remembered a swan she had bought many years ago in Shanghai for a foolish sum.Then the woman and the swan sailed across an ocean many thousands of li wide stretching their necks toward America.But when she arrived in the new country ,the immigration officials pulled the swan away from her leaving the woman fluttering her arms and with only one swan feather for a memory.For a long time now, the woman had wanted to give her daughter the single swan feather and tell her, \feather may look worthless, but it comes from afar and carries with it all my good intentions. \
老夫人记得多年前在上海傻乎乎地出大价钱买了一只天鹅。这只“天鹅”被小贩吹的天花乱坠。后来这个女人带着天鹅漂洋过海背井离乡，来到了美国。但是当她踏入这块新土地，移民局官员把天鹅从她身边拿走，这女人无奈地挥挥双臂，只留有一根天鹅羽毛做念想。很久以来，老妇人一直想要赠与女儿这根天鹅羽毛，告诉她：“这根羽毛看似一文不值，但却是远从千里而来，承载着我的一片心。”

Aunt Lindo:(pointing her clothes) $9.99

voice over: June realized for the first time, they wanted her to take her mother's place.So she sat down on the East, where things begin with her mother's best friends. Her mother started the Joy Luck Club, having met all these women in church.Auntie An Mei, Auntie Lindo, Auntie Ying Ying. For 30 years, these women feasted,forgot past wrongs, laughed and played,lost and won and told the best stories. Each week they hoped to be lucky and that hope was their only joy. Their connection with each other had more to do with hope than joy or luck.

June：Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. No talking in Chinese. How do I know you're not cheating?

Aunt Anmei: We would not cheat. Aunt Lindo: You don't know, but not we. 我们才不会呢 你不知道，但是我们不会的。
Aunt Lindo:You don't know, but we are your auntie, and we are very honest people.We will not cheat you.

Old Mr.Chong：What? 什么？
June(raising her voice): Z major! 提高音量 Z大调！
Old Mr.Chong：Good.(June chuckles)Now, for the recital...more feeling...more gusto! 很好。（琼偷笑） 对于独奏会来说，需要更多感情，更多热忱！

June is waiting to come on the stage. 琼在候场
voice over: When June was young, Auntie Lindo was her mother's best friend and archenemy. Their weapons of choice were comparing their children. June's mother was sick of hearing Auntie Lindo bra about her daughter Waverly, who was Chinatown's chess champion.That night June's mother figured June would redeem her with this international piano debut. 当琼还小的时候，林多阿姨是妈妈最好的朋友也是头号敌人，她们选择的武器就是攀比她们的孩子。母亲受不了总听林多阿姨吹嘘自己的女儿薇芙丽是唐人街的国际象棋冠军。那天晚上母亲发现琼的国际钢琴首秀可以挽回她的颜面。 Aunt Lindo: I ask my daughter \All day long she play chess. I dust off all her trophy. Appreciate me? No. You lucky you don't have the same problem.
我叫我的女儿帮我拿点东西，她觉得这太过了，一整天她都在下棋。我给她的奖牌掸灰，她感激我吗？不。你很幸运不用面对这些烦心事。
Mother:My problem worser than yours. If I tell June time to wash dish, she hear nothing but music. It's like you can't stop this natural talent.

voice over:Until that night, June didn't believe she was a prodigy. In fact, she used to go out of her way to prove her mother wrong that she wasn't cut out to be the best anything ,she could only be herself.

June: (murmur) Maybe they didn't noticed(depressed) （小声地说）也许他们并没有发现（失落地） Old Mr.Chong: Bravo! Bravo! Encore! Well done!
太棒了，太棒了！再来一个！太棒了！ Audience1(clap weakly):That’s awful （敷衍的鼓掌）糟透了 Audience 2:Well, she certainly tried 哎。她尽力了
Waverly(speak to June):You aren’t a genius like me 你可不及我那么有才气 Aunt Lindo(said vaguely):Lots of talented kids. （含糊其辞）这么多有才的孩子 Father:That was something else. 那是另外一回事

June thought that she never had to play the piano again after the talent show fiasco. She is watching TV.
琼以为，在天才秀惨败之后，她再也不用弹钢琴了。她正在看电视。 Mother: 4：00. Turn off the TV. Practice piano time. 四点了，该关电视了。到点弹钢琴了。 Mother: What I say? 4:00

June: I’m not going to play any more. Why should I? 我不会再弹钢琴了，我为什么要弹？ Mother: What did you say? 你刚才说什么？
June:I'm not your slave. This isn't China. You can't make me.
