在主线与匝道连接的路段，为适应车辆变速行驶的需要，而不致影响主线交通所设置的附加车道称为变速车道。变速车道由加减速车道和渐变段两部分组成，车辆由主线驶入匝道时减速所需要的附加车道称为减速车道，车辆由匝道驶入主线时加速所需要的附加车道称为加速车道。变速车道是车辆安全驶离或汇入主线的重要部分，是整个互通式立交系统中最容易发生交通事故的路段，设计中应予以高度重视。
