Readers and writers will come together for five days of literary (文学的 ) activities at SLQ— home of the Brisbane Writers Festival.Meet famous authors， join in lively discussions，walk around and buy at the Library Shop.At the centre of it all， enter Angel's Palace，an interesting artwork experience by artist Gordon Hookey ， inspired (启发 ) by author Alexis Wright's novel
Carpentaria.

Marian Wright Edelman was born and grew up in Bennettsviile ， South Carolina.Her father was a preacher (牧师 ) who taught his children that they should service the public.He died when Marian was only fourteen，encouraging her in his last words，“Don't let
anything get in the way of your education.”
Marian went on to study at Spelman College and traveled to the Soviet Union.When returning to Spelman College ， she took part in the civil rights movement，causing her to drop her plans to enter the United States Foreign Service， and to study law instead.She studied law at Yale University and worked on a project to record the names of African- Americans in Mississippi.After graduating from Yale University ，Marian worked in the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund's Mississippi office.There ，she became the first African- American woman to practice law.She worked on issues
connected with the civil rights movement.
During a tour of the Mississippi Delta in 1967 ，Marian met Peter Edelman，an assistant to Robert Kennedy，and the next year she moved to Washington，D.C.， to marry him and to work for social justice.In Washington ，D.C.，Marian continued to help organize the Poor People's Campaign.She also became interested in issues related to childhood development and children.Marian set up the Children's Defense Fund (CDF) in 1973 as a voice for poor and disabled children.She served as a public speaker for these children，as well as president of the organization.Marian also published her ideas in several books.The Measure of Our Success： A Letter to My Children and Yours was a surprising success.In the 1990s，when Bill Clinton became President， Hillary Clinton's involvement with the CDF meant there was more attention given to the organization.
