学校简介

布鲁内尔大学成立于1966年,共有13000名学生,其中国际学生约为2000人,分别来自113个国家。校园位于伦敦西郊的欧克斯桥(Uxbridge),是离希思罗机场最近的大学。学校的地理位置十分理想,一方面靠近首都;另一方面它又避开了市中心喧哗的人群和噪音。布鲁内尔大学以科研为主,课程侧重于以下领域:工程、技术、纯粹和应用科学、教育学和社会科学(包括法学、经济学和管理)、人文、视觉和表演艺术、运动科学、地理、卫生和社会研究。 项目简介

附件: NSIRC PHD Studentships

The National Structural Integrity Research Centre (NSIRC?) is a state-of-the-art engineering facility for postgraduate training and industry led research. A joint effort by Brunel University and a world leading research institution TWI, the Centre will carry out cutting edge research and deliver highly qualified training for future research leaders in the field of structural integrity.

A significant number of fully funded PhD studentships are available for suitable candidates with strong interest in fundamental and applied research in the area of structural integrity. The studentship will cover a stipend of £16,000 per annum for 3 years, UK/EU student tuition fees (currently at £4k/y), and supports for research. Overseas applicants are welcome, though the total funding is capped at £20k/year. Successful applicants will be required to register at Brunel University for the PhD degree, and will be based at Granta Park, Cambridge, adjacent to the Headquarters of TWI. All research topics have direct link with industry.

We are seeking strong candidates for research topics, including but not limited to: ·Validation of Leak Before Break (LBB) methods for piping and pressure vessels ·Fracture toughness of weld heat affected zone microstructures

·Crack Tip Opening Displacement (CTOD) formulae for fracture toughness tests ·The effect of Copper on steel weld metal microstructure and properties

·Investigation of residual stresses in fracture toughness test specimens and its effect on fracture toughness

·Effects of local post-weld heat treatment on residual stresses relaxation

·Investigation of crack driving force, fracture toughness and plastic collapse in structures under multiple axial stresses

·Inspection of heat exchangers using guided waves ·Residual stress measurement using ultrasound ·Safe-by-Design High Energy Piping Systems

·CFD modelling of steam jet formation and impingement

·A pattern recognition approach for damage detection in composite plates ·Fitness for Service in Pressure Vessels (Power / Nuclear)

·The assessment of environmental factors for the integrity of nuclear storage facilities

Candidates should have a relevant engineering degree minimum at 2.1 grade, or an equivalent overseas degree, in Mechanical Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering, Material Science, Metallurgy or Physics. Candidates with suitable working experience and strong capacity in numerical modelling and experimental skills are particularly welcome to apply. There is no deadline for application.
