一、重点单词需牢记

1. abstract adj. 抽象的；深奥的 n. 摘要；概括vt. 摘录；节摘；提取

abstract...from... 从……中提取

abstract sth. from... 除去……； 从……中提取或分离 make an abstract of... 给……做出了摘要

Salt can be abstracted from sea water. 从海水中可提取盐。

abstracted adj. 心不在焉的，另有所思的，走神的 abstraction n. 抽象概念；提取；抽取； 拿取

2. aim n. 目标；目的 vi. & vt. 瞄准；(向某方向)努力

aim (sth.) at sb./sth.(用某物)瞄准某人/某物 achieve one's aim 达到某人的目标 aim to do sth. 意欲/力求做某事

aim at＋名词/动名词，意为“志向是……” He aimed the gun at a bird. 他用枪瞄准鸟。

Her aim is to be a pro golfer.她的目标是成为职业高尔夫球运动员。 He aimed the ball into the net but missed. 他把球对准网子，但没有投准。 I aimed at the door but hit the window. 我对准门射击，不料打中了窗子。 3. faith n. 信任；信心；信念

have faith in sb./sth. 对某人/某事有信心 lose faith in 不再信任，对……失去信心 in faith 确实，的确

Under no circumstance shall we lost faith in the future. 在任何情况下，我们都不该对未来失去信心。

faithful adj. 忠实的 faithfully adv. 忠实地

be faithful to sb. /sth. 忠实于某人/某事

4. attempt n. 努力；尝试；企图 vt. 尝试；企图

attempt to do/doing ＝try to do/doing

＝make an attempt to do/at doing 尝试做…… at one's first attempt 某人第一次尝试 in an attempt to do sth. 试图做某事

make an attempt on sb.'s life 企图谋杀某人 attempt at/on sth. 试图做某事 I attempted to get in touch with her. 我试图与她取得联系。

attempt为正式用语，常指一次的而不是连续的尝试，往往暗示这种尝试达不到目的，常包含“冒险”的意义。

5. possess vt. 拥有；具有；支配

Taking drugs, he has lost all that he possesses. 由于吸毒，他失去了所拥有的所有财物。

possession n. (尤作复数) 所有物；财产 in possession of 占有；拥有；持有 in sb's possession

＝in the possession of sb. 为某人所有； 在某人的控制下 come into possession of sth.

＝ take possession of sth. 占有某物

On her father's death, she came into possession of a vast fortune. 她在父亲死后继承了大量财产。

A man is not born in the possession of knowledge. 人非生而知之者。

possess强调对目前拥有或占有的东西可以控制或支配，也用于表示具有某种才能、品质特点或性能等。own强调所属关系。have为常用词，可指任何情况下的具有，包括物质的或精神的。

6. appeal vi.有感染力；呼吁；求助 vt.将……上诉 n. 呼吁；恳求

appeal to sb. 吸引某人；有感染力；引起兴趣 appeal against sth. 上诉，申诉

appeal to sb. for sth./to do sth. 向某人呼吁/恳求某事 Bright colours appeal to kids. 小孩对鲜艳的颜色感兴趣。

The company is appealing against the judgement. 公司正对判决提出申诉。

We appealed to the villagers for money to build the bridge. 为建造这座桥， 我们呼吁村民捐款。

appealing adj. 有吸引力的；有感染力的；可怜的

7. exchange n. 交换；交流；互换 vt. & vi. 调换；交换

exchange A for B 以B交换/更换A

exchange sth. (with sb.) (同……)交换……

8. load n. 负担；负荷物(尤指沉重的) vt. 装载；给……负荷

loads of /a load of 许多，大量(可修饰可数名词或不可数名词) load...with给……装满某物

load...into/onto... 把……装入(到)……

She loaded film into the camera. 她把胶卷装到照相机里。 ＝ She loaded the camera with film.她在照相机里装了胶卷。

9. accustom vt. 使习惯于

accustomed adj. 惯常的； 习惯了的

accustom oneself to＋n./v.－ing 使自己习惯

be/get/become/grow accustomed to＋ n．/v.－ing ＝ be/get used to＋n./v.－ing 习惯于……

My elder sister has grown accustomed to looking after me. 我姐姐已经习惯于照顾我。

He accustomed himself to the new job as soon as possible. 他使自己尽可能快地习惯于新的工作。

have an effect on 对……有影响 take effect开始实行；开始生效 come into effect生效，实施

bring/carry sth. into effect使……生效 in effect正在实行；实际上 without effect没有效果 be of no effect 无效果的
