Do you love American country music? If you do, come to Nashville. It's the home of American country music.

Nashville is the capital city of the state of Tennessee. Here you don't have to go to the big auditoriums(音乐厅) to enjoy the country music. In the open air restaurants or on the streets, you can always hear the beautiful and sweet sounding folk music. All the singers are young and they play their guitars while they sing. The songs they sing are so touching that, if you listen attentively, you can feel they are singing with their souls rather than with their voices.

Shops selling music records and tapes can be found everywhere in Nashville. Many records are made by famous singers and they are sent to many countries all over the world.

The folk songs most of the singers sing come from the rural areas in the southern United States. The songs often describe the situations of those days and the feeling of the country people. They often sing in praise of heroism and true love.

1.From the passage we know Nashville is famous for its ______. A.cultural relics C.country music

2.The songs that the young singers sing are very attractive because ________. A.they are all famous singers B.they have been trained for this C.they are good at singing D.they sing with their heart

根据第二段最后一句中的“you can feel they are singing with their souls rather than with their voices”可知他们是在用心唱歌,所以才动听。

3.You can enjoy the country music in Nashville ________. A.for free C.in the concert

B.in the open air D.all of the above

4.According to the passage which of the following statements is NOT true?

A.The folk songs can impress you deeply. B.All records are made by famous singers.

C.The folk songs only sing in praise of heroism and true love.

D.Shops that sell music records and tapes can be found everywhere in Nashville.

根据第三段第二句“Many records are made by famous singers...”

When Beethoven was in his twenties, he began to go deaf. The deafness changed his behavior (举止). He became withdrawn (沉默寡言) and bad-tempered. His friends found him hard to be around. But he kept composing even when he lost all his hearing. The music he heard was in his head.

As 1809 drew to its close, Beethoven gave several main works. On the 22nd of December, he gave a concert which included the Fifth Symphony and the Piano Concerto (协奏曲). In May, 1809 Haydn died. There was no one to challenge Beethoven's right to be the musical king of Vienna. At the end of 1813, the Seventh Symphony was performed for the first time. Between 1819 and 1823 he composed his Ninth Symphony and some more piano sonatas.

Beethoven died when he was 57 years old. He had composed over a hundred pieces. His music spanned (跨越) two stages of music history. His early music was more formal. It followed certain steps and patterns (模式). But his later music changed. The style is now called romantic music. This type of music is written to stir the listeners' feelings. This romantic style changed the way people thought about music. Many later composers got new ideas from his musical discoveries.

5.When Beethoven was in his twenties, he ________. A.lost his friends C.became famous

B.became angry easily D.lost his hearing

6.His later music is called ________music. A.classical C.romantic

B.natural D.formal

But his later music changed. This style is now called romantic music.

7.The underlined word “challenge” in the second paragraph means “________”. A.question B.judge C.accept D.give

C

In today's society, a college degree tells little about what you know in comparison to what it tells about what you can learn. For example, the IT world is constantly changing. Anything you learn today will probably be useless in a few short years. The point is to learn to learn.

Blogging(写博客) works exactly the same way. And I believe this to be true regardless of your end goal. If you're trying to make money, this is very clear. There's always more money to be made. If you're teaching on a subject, you are constantly looking for new information to share. Even if you're just sharing your words with others for pleasure, you're continuously improving your writing and storytelling so people don't get bored of you.

This is one of the reasons that bloggers burn out. They forget this. They think they have an unlimited amount of content just waiting to burst from their brain. They get comfortable. Then they start to run out of juice. Sure,_at_times_it_seems_that_some_bloggers_just_have_it._They are experts in their fields and will simply feed us with invaluable content forever. But this is not true. Pay attention. Even famous bloggers would run out of content eventually without constant learning.

The point is easy to see. Don't think you've succeeded. There is no summit. What happens when someone thinks they've hit the summit? They quickly begin falling down the other side. Always be learning from your experiences. See what posts work for your readers. Which get the best response? Which are completely ignored? Which bring in the most Google traffic, or get the most absence clicks? Don't settle, or your blog will close for ever eventually.

8.Judging from the article, if you have got a college degree, say, in engineering, it means ________.

A. you're good at engineering B. you've finished learning engineering C. you've chosen to learn engineering D. you can find work relating to engineering

9.The writer thinks blogging works in a way that it requires the writers to ________. A. be constant learners B. have academic degrees C. keep on writing

D. know everything before starting

10.The writer uses the second “it” in the underlined sentence “Sure, at times...have it” to refer to ________.

A. the failure in keeping on writing B. the knowledge needed for blogging

C. the ability of constant learning D. the comfort enjoyed from blogging

11.The questions in the last paragraph are asked to advise bloggers on how to ________. A. learn from their experiences B. learn from others C. update their knowledge D. reach blogging summit

答案:A 最后一段中的问句是对“Always be learning from your experiences. See what posts work for your readers”的具体示例,故这些问题是为了告诫写博客的人如何从他们的经历中学习。

D

We all know that money can't buy happiness, but many times we act as if we were happier with a bit more money. We are conditioned to want to be rich (when we know the rich aren't happy either); we are trained to want the latest gadget or style that television tells us to want; we want to earn more money because then we'll have a good life.

But none of them will bring us happiness. No matter how much we earn, no matter how much we have in the bank, no matter how nice our clothing or cars or toys, none of them will make us happier. And the sad thing is that it could take us decades to pursue wealth and luxurious items before we realize this.

So what will bring us happiness? Luckily, it's these three things that don't cost a thing. These three things have been proven by surveys of hundreds of thousands of people about what they have, what their lives are like, and how happy they are.

Here they are, the Three Secrets to Happiness:

1.Good relationships. We have a human need to be close to and to be intimate with other human beings. Having good and supportive friendships, a strong marriage or close and loving relationships with our family members will make us much more likely to be happy.

Action steps: Take time, today, to spend time with your loved ones, to tell them what they mean to you, to listen to them, and to develop your relationships with them.

2.Positive thinking. I'm obviously a big proponent of positive thinking as the best way to achieve your goals, and it turns out that it can lead to happiness too. Optimism and self-esteem are some of the best indicators of people who lead happy lives. Happy people feel empowered, take control of their lives, and have a positive outlook on life.

Action steps: Make positive thinking a habit. In fact, this should be one of the first habits you develop. Get into the habit of squashing all negative thoughts and replacing them with positive ones. Instead of“I can't think”“I can”. It may sound silly, but it works for me, every time.

3.Flow. This is a popular concept on the Internet these days—the state we enter when we are
