1

A: I always forget things pretty easily recently. B: Like what?

A: When I got back after work, I found I hadn't lock the door. B: This could happen to anyone. It's nothing serious.

A: If so, I wouldn't worry about my poor memory. In addition to that situation above, I am comfronted with lots of problems because of my forgetful charecter, like forgetting to pay for my electric fee etc.. B: Maybe you are able to change it.

A:Would you like to give me some suggestions?

B: Sure. You can make a list on what you are about to do in the coming period. And stick it on the place where you can see it obviously.

A:That's great. But What are I supposed to do if I forget to make a list? B: Oh,you can let your husband remind you anytime. A: Thanks for your advice. B: You're welcome.

A:Then, I have to come back.Goodbye! B: Bye.See you next time.

2

A:I have been really forgetful these days. B: Why, I mean what have caused that?

A: I have no ideas. I just couldn't keep the things, which I need to do to stay in my mind. B: What exactly have you been forgotten of late?

A: There seem quite a long list that I can't recall all of them. B: What was the most recent things, which you have forgot to do?

A: The most conmon things were, miss-doing some homework that I need to submit urgently a few times.

B: And what else?

A: I forgot to bring my homewok to school many times.

B: So, that's why you have been told off by our teachers several times these days then! A: Yes, I just don't know what's the matter with me and I don't know what I should do? B: Oh dear, I am so sorry to hear about these.

A: I am scared, I am afraid that I may have brain problems!

B: Please don't be afraid, this is probably because you were too stress. A: I am really worried, of course I am stressed!

B: What I mean were your problems caused by stress, Did you worry too much about things these days?

A: Yes, I thik I was worrying about my school work and grade a lot for a long time.

B: That's probably the cause for all these. Your mind were pre-occupied by your worries. So, you have forgot things easily.

A: Well, what should I do to help myself then?

B: First all of, you must learn to relax and take things easy. Because take things too hard would not help but only can make things worse. If you can relax and let things run their own course, sometimes it would turn out just fine for you.

A: Thanks for your advice, I think I shall learn to be more relax from now on and leave things alone to see if I would get better.

B: I am sure if you could do that then your problems will go away themselves and you will gradually have your good memory back. A: Thanks mate, you are a great help.

B: That's nothing, we are best friends anyway, you would do the same to help me if I have problems too, wouldn't you? 3

A: Tell me your secret. You’re suddenly getting excellent marks in every subject, and you used to be a bottom-of-the-class student just like me.

B: Simple enough. I read an article in a scientific journal that linked studying with remembering, based on recent research into the brain.

A: Aw, that stuff’s old hat: study at the same time every day, be sure your clothes are comfortable, make sure you have enough light, blah-blah-blah.

B: Not so fast, wise guy. I’m talking about principles like “Mental Visualization”, creating a picture in your mind of what is to be remembered.

A: Ok, that does sound different. Is “Association” a principle, you know, you connect what you want to remember with something you’re familiar with?

B: Right on! “Consolidation ” is another. I review my notes right after class and consolidate or absorb the new material into what I’ve already learned.

A: You’re moving ahead fast with those principles. I swear this weekend I’m going to study sixteen hours a day both Saturday and Sunday.

B: Whoa, big guy. That’s not the way. Follow the principle of “Distributed Practice”. Shorter study sessions distributed over several days are better.

A: That system is all very well for you; you’ve got a good memory. But what about me? I’ve got a memory like a sieve.

B: You’re too modest. There’s nothing wrong with your memory. But memory is like a muscle; it needs exercise. And don’t forget it.

Topic 2 School Life

A: We’re going to have a test, and I also have a term paper to finish. But I haven’t done a thing. I’m really worried now.

B: You’re going to have to hit the books if you want to get good grades. A: But this course is so difficult that I really don’t understand it at all.

B: We could study together. Maybe some of my organized study habits can help you.

A: Better yet, maybe you could write a term paper for me. B: Forget it! That would be cheating.

A: All right, all right. I have yet to write it myself. Maybe I can downlaod some articles from the Internet and piece them together.

B: You can borrow ideas from those articles, but if you quote without giving the sources, you’re plagiarizing.

A: Also, the test next week will be a headache. If you don’t help me, I’ll have to prepare a cheat-sheet and hide it in my hand during the test.

B: Oh, no! If you’re caught, the professor will definitely give you an F. A: I’ll try to be careful.

B: But if the professor catches you, you’ll have to repeat the year. You’re just going to have to study hard.

A: Ok, I’ll take your advice. The library’s going to be my new home, and in the dorm I’ll be burning the midnight oil.

Topic 3 Job Hunting 1

A: B, can you give me some tips about how to get a good job? B: Did you go to the job fairs and meet with companies?

A: Yeah, I did. But they didn’t seem to be interested in unexperienced graduates. I thought about suing them for discrimination against green graduates.

B: I’m afraid it won’t be much help. Have you looked at the want ads in the newspaper?

A: I’ve been checking the want ads every day for a week, but I can’t find anything interesting that I’m qualified for. And the few that I have seen are very low-paying.

B: Then try the Internet. You can use a search engine to find a job site related to your field. A: Good thinking! Thanks! I think I’ll look for something in electronic engineering.

B: Hey, I just saw a job opening at a company called E-Tech. It could be just the sort of thing you’re looking for.

A: Great, I’ll try my luck there.

B: Yeah, but if I remember, the deadline is this afternoon.

A: This afternoon? Oh no! I’d better get online quickly and see if I can submit my resume by e-mail.

B: Wait, have you updated your resume? You’d better include your practice experience in the IT company last summer.

A: Don’t worry. It’s all set. Thanks, mate. B:Any time, A. 2 A:Tommy, I heard that you've already graduated for over a year, but why it was so hard for you to find a job?

B:Well, you know all positions related to IT industry has been shrinking due to the stupid economic recession.

A:Don't tell me you're majoring in computer.

B:Yeah, you're right. Indeed my major is computer, so that's why I am still hunting for a job. A:I see. Have you ever turned to someone for help, perhaps your friends or your relatives?

B:Yeah, hard as I tried, yet the result were all ending with failures. It really frustrates me. By the way, do you have any ideas to help me out of this trouble?

A:I can't guarantee you anything but I suggest you some ways which you should give a shot. B:Like what?Could you be a little more specific?

A:Sure.Ways like going to job fairs, reading newspapers to look for information about jobs, or searching on the Internet. They are all some effective ways. B:Thank you so much. I really appreciate your proposals. I will bear that in mind and start to look for my job with an optimistic attitude. A:That's right. Hope you succeed. B:Thank you. Topic 4: Education

A: Children nowadays are really having a hard time. B: How do you come to that?

A: Well, because they are being forced to learned English in the very early age! B: I can't see any thing wrong with that?

A: But they have to learn our language too...at the same time!

B: Time has changed, English is now the most important international language in the world..... A: Yes, I have no objection to that, but..

B: That is only for their own good. It would give them a good foundation with their English learning....

A:But apart from have to learn English very early, they have to learn our own language too! That's double pressure!

B: It's necessary, in order to have a good future, they need to learn English early. A: I think learning our own language first is far more important.

B: You can't be more wrong, learning other language is better start at younger age. When the brain is still empty with plenty of space to store new information!

A: I do not agree. I think we are pushing our children too hard. We are giving them too much work and too much pressure at such a young age.

B: You are wrong about that too. Learning English is just another subject in their school work. Most children only find learning English fun.

A: That's your opinion, you are not children anymore, how do you know? B: You are not children either and how do you know they don't like it?

A: That's common sense. How do you feel if you have been given double amount of homework, and have very little time to play when you were very young?

B: I do not think learning English would take too much or any extra time for the children. They spend the same amount of time in school as before.

A: What about after school? They have to revise two sets of languages compare with only one before, right?

B: As I have put earlier, that's just another subject for them. The amount of homework would be still reasonable and bearable for all the children.
