Unit One

He predicted that earthquakes would not break out in the next few years in this area.

1.The further shrinking of these markets will cause economic crises to break out. 市场的进一步缩小将会导致经济危机的爆发。

2.All of us long for a chance to visit Shanghai because of the World Expositions. 因为世博会,我们都很渴望有机会去上海。

3.My English teacher suggests we download the latest English movies from the Internet. 我们的英语老师建议我们在网上下载最新的英文电影。

4.If no one has the courage to speak out and point out the problems in this project, the project will not be improved.

Unit Three

They made all the efforts to stave off bankruptcy of the company.

1.Excessive smoking and drinking tend to cloud the brain. 烟酒过度会影响人的理解及判断能力。

2.Race-goers will be given a number which will correspond to a horse running in the race.

3.The Federal Reserve lowered interest rates to stimulate the economy and stave off a recession.

Unit Four

5.我有充分的理由相信他是无辜的。(there is every reason to) There is every reason for me to believe that he is innocent. 6.总有一天他会明白诚实是有好处的。(it pays to) One day he will realize that it pays to be honest.

1.His judgment in this matter was by no means infallible. 在这件事上他的判断决非无可指责。

2.Chances are that firms from across the country will come to compete for the contract. 很可能全国各地的公司都会来争订这个合同。

3.She knew there were problems, and she was prepared for anything to happen. 她知道有些问题,而她已准备好应付一切。

4.Stop acting like a child with your bad temper! Do grow up! 不要耍小孩子脾气!快成人吧!

5.In view of her behavior, there is every reason for you to be suspicious. 就她的行为而言,你有充分理由表示怀疑。

6.It never pays to believe you must be cleverer than your opponent. 认为自己一定比对手聪明毫无益处。
