To:susan@yahoo.com From:confused@yahoo.com Subject: Ask for advice Time: October 1st,2008 Dear Susan, My roommate's family wants me to have thanksgiving dinner with them in their home. I accepted the invitation, and I'm excited about going, but I'm a little worried about it, too. The social customs in my country are very different from here. Should I bring a gift, such as candy or flowers? Should I arrive on time or a little late? At the dinner table, how can I know which fork or knife to use? How can I let the family know that I'm thankful for their kindness? Hope to get your advice. Yours sincerely Confused To: confused@yahoo.com From: susan@yahoo.com Subject: Some advice Time: October 5th, 2008 Dear Confused, It's a good idea to bring a small gift when you go to a dinner party. Flowers are always nice, or you might bring a bottle of wine if you know that the family drinks it. You should arrive on time or five to ten minutes late. Don't get there early. If you're going to be more than fifteen minutes late, you should call and tell them. Try to be free at the dinner table. If you don't know about choosing the correct fork, knife, or spoon, just watch the other people, and follow them. If you still have no idea of what to do, don't be shy about asking the person next to you. It's better to ask than to be quietly uncomfortable and nervous. If you like the food, say so. Of course, you'll thank the host and hostess for the meal and for their kindness. It's also a good idea to send a card or thank-you note the day after. Yours Susan 56.Susan may be______________.

There is a wonderful story about a young girl who had no family and no one to love her. One day, feeling very sad and lonely, she was walking through a grassland when she noticed a small butterfly caught in a thorn(荆棘) bush. The young girl carefully set the butterfly free. Instead of flying away, the little butterfly changed into a beautiful fairy (仙女).
“For your wonderful kindness,” the good fairy said to the girl, “I will give you any wish you would like.” The little girl thought for a moment and then replied, “I want to be happy.”
After hearing this the fairy whispered(低语) a few words to the girls, then disappeared.
As the little girl grew up, there was no one in the land as happy as she. Everyone asked her secret of her happiness, she would only smile and answer, “The secret of my happiness is that I listened to a good fairy when I was a little girl.”
