My school life

Time goes so fast, and I have spent almost three years in this university! Throwing my mind back to the first year, I was a freshman and curious about anything around me, even the supermarket was where I lingered on with no thought of living in my free time. But now, I am a student in grade three and have only one year to go for my college life. It sounds shameful to say that I really start to recognize the importance of cherishing my time, which will be my priceless treasure. Last weekend a younger schoolmate chatted with me about her daily routine. She complained about her busy preparation of mid-term test. It occurred to me the feeling was exactly the same as mine when I was at her age: too many types of courses and homework to leave some time reading or enjoying oneself. But when students enter into senior grade due to different tests they would feel their time is not enough to support and regret for not having read many books. Every generation would feel so, would not it? Actually it is really kind of sarcastic!

Every day I will go to the classroom except weekend. I love my major—English, especially interpretation. I choose this major on the basis of my passion. I want to improve my English level during my college study and fortunately, I have met my lovely classmates and helpful teachers. At the very beginning I was poor in listening in the audio-lingual classes, so I tried my best to recognize what the speaker was saying on the computer, but I failed. When the teacher asked me to answer her questions, I just said: “sorry, I missed the point.” I was quite upset but I didn’t want to give up. After class, I told my deskmate my trouble and she suggested that I should practice more after class and listen to BBC news or VOA English every day. I followed her advice and insisted on listening English materials everyday for one

hour. I am very grateful for her selfless help in my progress of listening. Also, I met a good teacher in the second year. Before we had TEM4, he told all of us how to review and spent his class time answering our questions. On the day before the exam, he encouraged us to wear earphone for listening to English news when we went to have the breakfast, so that our ears can absorb in some sense of English right before the exam and we wouldn’t be nervous when we were really taking the exam. That really worked. Thanks to my teacher, I passed the exam.

Of course, except classroom the place I often visit is the library. The library with two million books is a good place to study in. In the library you can search whatever books you want. When you are tired or you are too lazy to study more, just raise your head, look around and see what others are doing. Yes, when you see others studying hard and you think of those students waiting outside the library early in the morning for seeking seats, you will regain the energy and motivation. It is a mysterious place, isn’t it ?
