bicycleThey compare their own performances with those of more skilled people, and slowly make the needed changes. But in school we never give a child a chance to find out his mistakes and correct them for himself. We do it all for him. We act as if we thought that he would never notice a mistake. If it is a matter in mathematics or science, give him the answer book. Let him correct his own papers. Why should we teachers waste time in such routine(ճ) work? Our job should be to help the child when he tells us that he cant find the way to get the right answer. Let the children learn what all educated persons must some day learn, how to measure their own understanding, and how to know what he does not know. Actually, the best policy is: Let him do it himself!

I know what youre thinking: pizza()? For breakfast? But the truth is that you can have last nights leftovers in the a.m. if you want to.

I know lots of women who skip breakfast (), and they have a ton of different excuses for doing it. Some say they dont have time, others think theyre saving calories(·), still others just dont like breakfast food.

But the bottom line is that eating in the morning is very important when youre trying to lose weight. Eating just about anything from 300 to 400 calories would be better than nothing at all, says Katherine Brooking, R.D, who developed the super-easy eating plan for this years SELF CHALLENGE. And even pizza can be healthy if its loaded with vegetables, and you stick to one small piece.

Breakfast is one meal I never miss, and the same goes for most weight loss success stories. Research shows that eating breakfast keeps you from overeating later in the day. Researchers at the University of Southern California found that breakfast skipper have a bigger chance of gaining weight than those who regularly have a morning meal.

So eat something in the morning, anything. I know plenty of friends who end up having no breakfast altogether, and have just coffee or orange juice. I say, try heating up () last nights leftoversit may sound crazy, but if it works for you, do it! I find if I tell myself, You can always eat it tomorrow, I put away the leftovers instead of eating more that night. Try it. You may

save yourself some pre-bedtime calories. And watch your body gain the fat-burning effects. 53. The word leftovers in Paragraph 1 probably means_________. A. food remaining after a meal B. things left undone C. meals made of vegetables D. pizza topped with fruit 54. What can we infer from the text?

A. Working women usually have breakfast in a hurry. B. Many people have wrong ideas about breakfast C. There are some easy ways of cooking a meal. D. Eating vegetables helps save energy.

55. According to the last paragraph, it is important to _______. A. eat something for breakfast B. be careful about what you eat C. heat up food before eating it D. eat calorie-controlled food 56. The text is written mainly for those_______. A. who go to work late B. who want to lose weight C. who stay up late D. who eat before sleep

Many animals recognize their food because they see it. So do humans. When you see an apple or a piece of chocolate you know that these are things you can eat. You can also use other senses when you choose your food. You may like it because it smells good or because it tastes good. You may dislike some types of food because they do not look, smell or taste very nice. Different animals use different senses to find and choose their food. A few animals depend on only one of their senses, while most animals use more than one sense.

Although there are many different types of food, some animals spend their lives eating only one type. The giant pandaèeats only one particular type of bambooӣ. Other animals eat only one type of food even when given the choice. A kind of white butterflywill stay on the leaves of a cabbage, even though there are plenty of other vegetables in the garden. However, most animals have a more varied diet(ʳ). The bear eats fruits and fish. The fox eats small animals, birds and fruits. The diet of these animals will be different depending on the season.

Humans have a very varied diet. We often eat food because we like it and not because it is good for us. In countries such as France and Britain, people eat foods with too much sugar. This makes them overweight, which is bad for their health. Eating too much red meat and animal products, such as butter, can also be bad for the health. Choosing the right food, therefore, has become an area of study in modern life.

57. We can infer from the text that humans and animals ________.

A. depend on one sense in choosing food B. are not satisfied with their food C. choose food in similar ways D. eat entirely different food 58. Which of the following eats only one type of food? A. The white butterfly. B. The small bird. C. The bear. D. The fox. 59. Certain animals change their choice of food when ________. A. the food color changes B. the season changes C. they move to different places D. they are attracted by different smells 60. We can learn from the last paragraph that _______. A. food is chosen for a good reason B. French and British food is good

C. some people have few choices of food D. some people care little about healthy diet ڶ ݶԻݣӶԻѡѡհ״ѡѡΪѡ.
