(2020·全国卷I·E)

There were smiling children all the way. Clearly they knew at what time the train passed their homes and they made it their business to stand along the railway, wave to complete strangers and cheer them up as they rushed towards Penang. Often whole families stood outside their homes and waved and smiled as if those on the trains were their favorite relatives. This is the simple village people of Malaysia. I was moved.

I had always traveled to Malaysia by plane or car, so this was the first time I was on a train. I did not particularly relish the long train journey and had brought along a dozen magazines to read and reread. I looked about the train. There was not one familiar face. I sighed and sat down to read my Economics. It was not long before the train was across the Causeway and in Malaysia. Johore Baru was just another city like Singapore, so I was tired of looking at the crowds of people as they hurried past. As we went beyond the city, I watched the straight rows of rubber trees and miles and miles of green. Then the first village came into sight. Immediately I came alive; I decided to wave back.

From then on my journey became interesting. I threw my magazines into the waste basket and decided to join in Malaysian life. Then everything came alive. The mountains seemed to speak to me. Even the trees were smiling. I stared at everything as if I was looking at it for the first time.

The day passed fast and I even forgot to have my lunch until I felt hungry. I looked at my watch and was surprised that it was 3:00 pm. Soon the train pulled up at Butterworth. I looked at the people all around me. They all looked beautiful. When my uncle arrived with a smile, I threw my arms around him to give him a warm hug (拥抱). I had never done this before. He seemed surprised and then his weather-beaten face warmed up with a huge smile. We walked arm in arm to his car.

I looked forward to the return journey. 71. The author expected the train trip to be________ . A. adventurous B. pleasant C. exciting D. dull

72. What did the author remember most fondly of her train trip?

A. The friendly country people. B. The mountains along the way.

C. The crowds of people in the streets. D. The simple lunch served on the train. 73. Which of the following words can best take the place of the word \paragraph?

A. choose B. enjoy C. prepare for D. carry on 74. Where was the writer going?

A. Johore Baru B. The Causeway. C. Butterworth D. Singapore 75. What can we learn from the story?

A. Comfort in traveling by train. B. Pleasure of living in the country. C. Reading gives people delight. D. Smiles brighten people up.

I did not particularly relish(享受)the long train journey and had brought along a dozen magazines to read and reread. I looked about the train. There was not one familiar face. I sighed and sat down to read my Economics.

72. 【解析】选A。 This is the simple village people of Malaysia. I was moved.

I did not particularly relish the long train journey and had brought along a dozen magazines to read and reread.

Soon the train pulled up(停下) at Butterworth… When my uncle arrived with a smile, I threw my arms around him to give him a warm hug (拥抱).

Often whole families stood outside their homes and waved and smiled as if those on the trains were their favorite relatives. This is the simple village people of Malaysia. I was moved与第四段的Even the trees were smiling.

In the lumberyard by the lake, where trees were turned into boards for construction work,

there was an old brick building two floors high, and all around the outside walls were great piles of soft sawdust (锯木屑). That afternoon, bored with having nothing else to do, all the fellows followed Michael up the ladder to the roof of the old building and they sat there with their legs hanging over the edge. Suddenly Michael said, “I dare you to jump down,” and without thinking about it, he pushed himself off the roof and fell on the sawdust, where he lay rolling around and laughing. “I dare you all!” he shouted. “You’re all cowards (胆小鬼),” he said, encouraging them to follow him. Still laughing, he watched them looking down from the roof, white-faced and hesitant, and then one by one they jumped and got up grinning (咧嘴笑) with relief.

In the hot afternoon sunlight they all lay on the sawdust pile telling jokes till at last one of the fellows said, “Come on up the old roof again and jump down.” There wasn’t much enthusiasm among them, but they all went up to the roof again and began to jump off in a determined, desperate way till only Michael was left. Michael wanted to jump down there and be with them, but he remained on the edge of the roof, wetting his lips, with a silly grin on his face, wondering why it had not seemed such a long drop the first time. For a while the fellows thought he was only fooling them, but then they saw him fixing his fist tight. He tried to count to ten and then jump, and when that failed, he tried to take a long breath and close his eyes. In a while the fellows grew tired of waiting and began to laugh at him. “Who did this in the first place? What’s the matter with you?” It was near dinner time and all of them got up and walked away.

For a long time Michael remained on the edge of the roof, staring unhappily and steadily at the ground. His clothes were wet from nervous sweating. At last he closed his eyes, slipped off the roof, fell heavily on the sawdust and lay there for a long time. As he lay there he wondered why he had been unable to jump. Then he got up slowly and walked home feeling deeply ashamed and wanting to avoid everybody.

41. Why did the boys first decide to climb onto the roof of the building? A. To test their courage. C. To avoid their parents. 42.

B. To kill time. D. To get a better view.

When the boys jumped down after Michael, they ________.

A. were not afraid at all

B. wanted to do it again immediately

C. were glad they had got down safely

D. found the jump easier than expected

43. How did Michael’s friends react when he didn’t make the jump immediately?

A. They left him immediately.

B. They were not surprised.

C. They felt very discouraged. D. They thought he was joking. 44.

When Michael finally jumped down the second time, he ________.

A. was very proud of himself

B. improved on his first jump

C. wanted to know what had stopped him

D. was not so angry with his friends any more

If you are interested in becoming a registered nurse, you are most likely aware that there are certain qualifications to become one.

Knowing the educational requirements to be a registered nurse is the first step you will need to take in your journey to become a RN. You will need to complete a prescribed program of study. The education that the promising registered nurse chooses will depend on if he or she is interested in getting further education.

One of the most getting forms of education for registered nurses is an associate degree in nursing which takes about two years to complete. Other RN candidates may choose a hospital diploma program where they take 30 to 60 hours worth of science classes and then take many more hours of classes which are heavily focused on nursing. The diploma program usually takes a minimum of three years. A diploma program meets the basic educational requirements to be a registered nurse.

Another choice is for the promising RN to get a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from a university.Once a BSN degree is earned,it gives the person the opportunity to get higher education opportunities in his or her field such as a Master’s Degree or a PhD.

The registered nurse educational requirements can vary from state to state in America as each state has its own laws and policies that govern the nursing profession. However, all registered nurses must take some sort of licensing exam in order to become legally able to practice in the registered nursing profession.

While 2 to 3 years of training is required,it is possible to make a good living from the salary
