M: Hello. International Friends Club. Can I help you?
W: Oh，hello. I read about your club in the paper today and I thought I’d phone to find out a bit more.
M: Yes，certainly. Well, we’re a sort of social club for people from different countries. It’s quite a new club—we have about 50 members at the moment, but we’re growing all the time. W: That sounds interesting. I’m British actually，and I came to Washington about three months ago.I’ m looking for ways to meet people. Er… what kinds of events do you organize? M: Well, we have social get-togethers, and sports events, and we also have language evenings. W: Could you tell me something about the language evenings?
M: Yes. Every day except Thursday we have a language evening. People can come and practice their languages—you know, over a drink or something. We have different languages on different evenings. Monday—Spanish; Tuesday—Italian; Wednesday—German; and Friday—French. On Thursday we usually have a meal in a restaurant for anyone who wants to come.
W: Well, that sounds great. I really need to practice my French.

W: Hi there everyone, I hope Ron covered everything at the meeting before lunch. Any questions?…Just in case you’re not sure, I will give you the details about the trip today and about what you’ll be doing tomorrow. Depending on traffic, this bus journey should take about 7 hours, so we guess we’ll be in Newcastle at 8 o’clock this evening. There will be dinner as soon as we get there. The camp manager normally makes us excellent noodles, and there’s always plenty of red wine, so you should sleep pretty well. There are two people to a tent, and please make sure you get the right one! Erm, the camp manager’s got a list of which tent you will be in, so don’t worry. They’re clearly marked. Tomorrow we have to be up and out at 7:30 for breakfast. We start work at 9 am. We will need at least a few hours to get things ready. The festival opens at 1:00 in the afternoon, and you’ll get a chance to go and see some of the bands playing—please let your group leader know when you want your 2 hours off.
