Unit 8 Have you read Treasure Island yet ?

Lesson 1 Section A (1a- 2d)

Teaching aims: Knowledge aims :

1.Words : treasure; island; full of; classic; page; hurry; hurry up; due; 2.Sentences:

A: Have you read Little Women yet? B: No, I haven’t. Have you? A: Yes, I’ve already read it. B: What’s it like? A: It’s fantastic.

A: Has Tina read Treasure Island? B: Yes, she has. She thinks it’s fantastic. A: What’s it about?

B: It’s about a boy who goes out to sea and finds an island full of treasures. 3. Let Ss learn more about famous books. 4. have/ has read Ability aims:

Ss can talk about books they have read and describe them. Moral aims: Encourage Ss to read. Teaching key points:

1. Target language.

2.have/has read ; already / yet Teaching steps: Step1, Lead in

T: Do you like reading books ? Ss: Yes. I do.

T: Have you read Little Women ? S1: Yes, I do./ No, I don’t . Step2, presentation

1. T: I like reading books. Here are some books that I have read. 2. Teach the names of books. Alice in Wonderland Treasure Island Robinson Crusoe Little Women Oliver Twist Tom Sawyer 3. Ss read and learn. Let Ss check the ones they know in 1a , then make conversations like: A: Have you read…? B: Yes, I have.

A: What’s it like ? B: It’s interesting/ exciting /…. Step3, Work on 1a.

1. Students do it.

2. Check the answers. Step 4 Work on 1b.

1. Let Ss read the chart. Play the tape.

2. Ss listen and write down the three books. 3. Play the tape again.

4. Ss listen again, check if they have read the books and what they think of them. 5. Check the answers. Ask Ss to read their answers in this way:

Nick hasn’t read Treasure land, but Judy has read it. She thinks it’s …. Step 5 Work on 2a.

1.Let Ss watch the picture in 1c and guess what these books are mainly about. Play the tape. 2.Ss listen and check Mark or Tina. Step 6 Work on 2b.

Give Ss some time to read the sentences in 2b, explain if necessary. Then Ss listen and write T or F. Step 7. Pair work

Let a pair of Ss to read the conversation in 2c to the class, ask Ss to talk according to the information in 2a and 2b.

A: Has Tina read Treasure Island? B: Yes, she has. She thinks it’s fantastic. A: What’s it about? B: It’s about …. Step8 , Reading

1. T: Amy and Steve are students, they both like reading books. Please read 2d quickly and find out: What have they read ? Steve Little Women Amy Treasure Island

2. Let Ss read again carefully and answer:

1) Has Steve finished reading Little Women yet? 2) What’s it about ?

3) What does Steve think about it?

4) Has Amy finished reading her book yet? 5) How many pages has she already read?

6) When do they have to finish the book report ? Step 9, Sum up

Let Ss sum up what they have learned this class. Step10 ,Homework

Write down the new words. Recite 2d.

Teaching aims: Words:

But I’ve found the ship and made a small boat. I’ve brought back many things I can use.

Have you decided which book to write about yet? One of them died but the other ran towards my house. Ability:

Step 1, Free talk and ;ead in.

1. Ask Ss to talk about books they have read. A: Have you read…? B: Yes, I have.

A: what’s it about? B: It’s about…. A: what do you think of it ? B: I think it’s …. 2. Watch a video about introducing Robinson Crusoe. Step 2, pre-reading

1.T: Have your read Robinson Crusoe? How much do you know about this story? Ss tell the class if they know.

2. Watch the picture .Tell Ss a story and teach the new words.

This standing man is called Robinson Crusoe. He is on an island . He lives with tools and uses guns to protect himself. The other man was saved by Robinson from cannibals. What happened to them ? Let’s read.

Step3, While- reading

1. Let Ss read quickly and answer the two questions: 1) What does Robinson Crusoe wait for ? 2)Why does Robinson call the man Friday? 2. Watch a video ,read paragraph 1 and answer:

Things has Robinson brought? What things has Robinson done? 3. Watch a video and Read paragraph 2 and answer: What do you think of Robinson? How do you know it? Read the sentences you like.
