阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
A
To encourage all students to get an education, a primary school in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh(恰蒂斯加尔) is asking parents to simply plant a tree sapling instead of paying school fees. The parents have to take care of the sapling and plant a new one if it dies-but compared to the cost of traditional school fees, it’s a small price to pay. And it comes with the added bonus of helping to improve local air quality.
At least 35 students between the ages of four and five are studying there. The initiative was set up by a group of local professionals and business owners in response to India’s rising education fees. Currently, the government spends just 3. 9 percent of its budget on education, which means parents are left to pay for hefty school fees, as well as paying for books and school supplies. For many families-particularly in rural regions-it’s not affordable, especially at the primary school level.
The lack of government spending is also affecting the education system. But by offering an affordable way to get students into schools, Shiksha Kuteer is encouraging education for everyone. So far, 700 saplings have been planted across the village over the last year. Shiksha Kuteer has opened in the village for students who are poor and have no money to pay fees. Students are being taught in English medium. They are being taught till a certain standard and
their guardians have been asked to plant saplings instead of paying fees. This is just one small in a small village in India, but if the approach works, it could be something that other schools look into.
However, air pollution becomes a serious problem in many parts of India. While a few trees aren’t going to solve that problem any time soon, making families plant and take care of a tree and replace it if it dies-is a way to encourage positive air-purifying action, as well as helping to educate the next generation.
21. What can be inferred from the Paragraph 1?
A. Parents need to take care of the sapling to protect its growth. B. Planting tree saplings also improves local air quality. C. If a tree sapling dies, the parents have to plant a new one.
D. Planting tree saplings is good for parents who can’t afford the education. 22. What can we know from the passage?
A. The proposal was set up by local governments and business owners. B. Planting tree saplings is used for solving India’s rising education fees. C. It’s good to plant tree saplings in solving air pollution in India quickly. D. Lack of government spending, but there’s no effect on the education system. 23. What can’t we get from the influences of planting a tree sapling? A. It can reduce the burden of a family. B. It can improve the local air quality. C. It helps educate the next generation. D. It greatly improves the quality of education. 24. What would be the best title for this passage? A. How to improve the air quality of India? B. Some ways to replace the education fees. C. Planting a tree instead of paying fees in India. D. Why parents choose to plant trees in India?

The Galapagos Islands
Everyone who has taken a high school biology class knows about Charles Darwin and his theory of evolution. Nearly 9,000 species, many of which can be found nowhere else in the entire world, call these islands home. Darwin studied the wildlife on these secluded islands. However, the wildlife that makes the Galapagos so unique is being seriously threatened.
The Chersonesos Archaeological Site
Though it is located in modern-day Ukraine, Chersoneos is actually an ancient Greek site, founded between 300 and 200 B. C. Though it was greatly protected and reconstructed, it is under attack by both natural and man-made forces, as coastal erosion, pollution, and urban encroachment threaten its destruction.
Intramuros
It is one district of Manilla, which is the second largest city in the Philippines, means “within the walls”. It was the original capital of the city, when the Spanish Empire still owned the territory. However, these ancient walls cannot keep out the modern world. Several special rights of Starbucks and McDonald’s have been erected around the ancient city, and the moats(护城河)surrounding it have been converted into golf courses. Historians worry about what will come next.
Hisham’s Palace
Hisham’s Palace was buried under the sand in A. D. 747 and remained there until Palestinian archeologist D. C. Baramki began digging it in 1934. Sadly, historians fear that the site might not be around in as few as 100 years. Interestingly, no one is quite sure what it is supposed to be.
When it disappeared from sight, it also seemed to disappear from any historical text. The only hint archaeologists have found is a lot of pottery with the name “Hisham”.
Lamu, Kenya
This city has been a World Heritage Site since 2001, but it has been around since the 14th century. Lamu was one of the original Swahili settlements, founded on the east coast of Africa, and it’s still inhabited to this day. During its golden age, Lamu was
one of the biggest cities around, a center of arts, politics, and literature. The city later became an important location for both Germany and Britian, and it only gained its independence along with Kenya in the 1960s.
25. Which of the following was selected in the World Heritage Site? A. The Galapagos Islands C. Hisham’s Palace
B. Intramuros
D. Lamu, Kenya
26. What’s the main worry of historians about the Intramuros? A. Pollution.
B. Wildlife, D. Coastal erosion.
C. City’s construction.
27. What can we infer from the passage?
A. Nobody lives in the Lamu, Kenya at the moment. B. Hisham’s Palace is an imaginative place in history. C. Intramuros is the first largest city in the Philippines.
D. Darwin finished his theory of evolution on the Galapagos Islands. 28. How does the author sound when telling these places? A. Curious.
B. Anxious.

The theatre in Shakespeare’s time was much more different than it is today. Authors wrote plays for the masses, especially those who couldn’t read or write.
The theatre changed a lot during Shakespeare’s lifetime. The authorities didn’t like it and didn’t allow acting in the city itself. They thought it had a bad influence on people and kept them from going to church. Queen Elizabeth, on the other hand, loved acting and helped the theatre become popular.
The theater in Shakespeare’s time was full of life. People did not sit all the time and it was not quiet during the performance. The audience could walk around, eat and drink during the play.
Theaters were open arenas or playhouses that had room for up to three thousand people. There was almost no scenery because the dialogue was the most important part of the play. Colourful and well designed costumes were very important and told people about the status of a character. Women never performed in plays, so young boys played female characters. The performances took place in the afternoon because it was too dark at night.
There was no stage crew as there is today. Actors had to do everything themselves —from making costumes to setting the stage. Plays were organized by acting companies. They performed
C. Cautious.
D. Humorous.
about 6 different plays each week because they needed money to survive. They had almost no time to rehearse(排练).
The companies in Shakespeare’s time had a rank system. The company belonged to shareholders and managers. They were responsible for everything and got most of the money when the company was successful. Sometimes they even owned their own building. Actors worked for the managers and after some time became a permanent member of the company. Apprentices(学徒) were young boys and were allowed to act m unimportant roles. They also played females characters in plays.
29. Why was the theatre banned by the authorities? A. The queen didn’t like it at all.
B. It was much more different than before. C. They thought it affected people negatively. D. They thought it kept people from going to church.
30. What does the underlined word “arenas” in Paragraph 4 mean? A. Stages. Playgrounds.
31. What can we know about the actors from the passage? A. They were too busy to practice. B. They could drink during the play. C. They had stage crew to help them. D. Women had to cross-dress male characters.
32. What is the author’s purpose m writing the passage? A. To remember Shakespeare.
B. To discuss the company’s rank system. C. To show his love of Shakespeare’s plays. D. To introduce theaters in Shakespeare’s time.
D

As a result, we drank alcohol to numb our wounds. 39 We started holding grudges(怨恨), playing mmd games, and subtly cheating others and ourselves to get ahead. And when it didn’t work out, we used lies to cover up lies5 and ate and drank some more just to make ourselves feel better again.

第二节 语法填空(共10小题;每小题1.5分,满分15分)
阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。
When you’re feeling stuck(束手无策的) and there’s no more energy left in your step, sometimes the best thing you can do is just to stop trying for a while. Moving forward feels great, 61 movement takes energy. Resting is a 62 (product) and appropriate project that could help you. Maybe you don’t have the option of 63 (sit) around doing nothing. Somehow, you’ve got to find or create the motivation to get moving again, regardless of how stuck you feel. That’s when it’s time 64 (do) two things.
The first is to remind yourself of your own agency. No matter 65 helpless you may feel at a time like this, no matter what challenges you face, you have control over the little things in your life. You’re the only one 66 gets to decide whether to brush your teeth, wash out that empty yogurt container, or sweep up that rubbish on the floor near the front door. When life won’t give its rewards to you, you can still reward 67 (you) with clean hair, a timeout, or a carrot. Once you inspire yourself by being proactive in smaller tasks, you’ll be better able to roll up your sleeves and do some heavy lifting on the bigger stuff.
The 68 (two) thing to do if you’ve lost your magic is to follow these three, simple words: Just start it. I remember an 69 (instruct) in graduate school telling us that if you simply begin to do a task, motivation kicks in within 10 seconds. You read that right: 10 seconds may be all it 70 (take) to change from “I don’t want to do it” to “I’m already doing it, so I might as well continue.”
Between these two tools-inspiring yourself through small actions or committing to just 10 seconds of activity-you’ll be able to make more progress than you would by sitting there
berating yourself for being stuck.

Challenges
For thousands of years, people have been faced with all kinds of challenges in different fields. There are not only physical challenges, but also social and intellectual challenges. Some people risk their lives in playing sports to see how well they can do. Others try to make and invent something to make life easier. Whatever they are, people enjoy challenges.
Why do some people enjoy these challenges? There are probably many reasons. One is curiosity. The other is the personal feeling of success or achievement. And nowadays, for some people, it is a business.
Today we still have many challenges in front of us. Medical science faces the challenges of conquering many diseases that still attack human beings. Engineers and planners must build new cities, design and produce new kinds of transportation. Scientists must develop new forms of energy.
没有平日的失败,就没有最终的成功。重要的是分析失败原因并吸取教训。
