Because English scores play an important part in the gaokao (150 points), Chinese students have paid great attention to learning English grammar, vocabulary and essay-writing, more than any other country's students spend on learning a second language, and students have poor skills of speaking and listening.

One possible version
Recently we’ve had a discussion about whether we should take after-school classes. Our opinions are divided on this topic. Some of the students are in favor of it. But I don’t think so.
The reasons are listed as follows. Firstly, it is a waste of time to take after-school classes and it can make us stressed out. Secondly, if we take after-school classes, it is not easy for us to focus my attention on my lessons at school. Finally, taking after-school classes has a bad effect on your physical and mental health.
In my view, students should not take after-school classes.
