Turn on the radio. A programme will come out from a broadcasting station (广播电视台)everywhere. We know sounds and music themselves can’t travel so far. There must be some things that bring the programme from the station. But what are they? They are radio waves (电波).However, we can’t sec them or even hear them. In tact, nobody knows exactly (确切地)what they are. But we all know that they are made by electricity.
At the broadcasting station, people talk, sing or make many other sounds. These sounds are changed into electricity. Then from the broadcasting aerial(天线) of a tall tower, electricity sends out radio waves which travel in all directions. And some of them reach your radio aerial.
What happens next is a magical thing. The radio waves start an electric current (电流)in your aerial like the one that was first made in the broadcasting station.
Finally, the loudspeaker (扩音器)in your radio changes the electricity into sound. So
you hear the programme.
