1. M: Look at the time! I’ll be late! Why on earth didn’t you wake me up? W: I didn’t know you were going out. Why didn’t you wind the clock? 2. W: For California trip, I’ve packed light clothes, sunglasses, and my
camera. Anything else you can think of?
M: Well, I think the only thing I didn’t hear on your list is a bathing
suit. Remember, California is one big beach.
3. M: I’m responding to an advertisement in the newspaper. It says here that you want a housemate.
W: Ha, ha. I hope you aren’t serious. I lived with you and Mum and Dad
long enough. I want a housemate that is not family. 4. M: I teach kids with learning difficulties. W: Really? That must be really rewarding.
M: Yeah, it can be, I suppose. But it’s actually quite frustrating too.
Sometimes it’s difficult to see any improvement. It really takes much brain to do this job.
5. W: Excuse me, but could you tell me where I can change American dollars into British pounds?
M: There is a bank opposite the supermarket.
W: Well, I know it,but it’s already past its closing time. M: Then why don’t you try the one next to the railway station? 6. M: Celia, why have you written another romantic novel?
W: Well, I find romantic fiction easy to write, but my next novel won’t
be a romance. I’m hoping to write something different, possibly a detective story.
M: I’m interested in the character of Felix. Is he anyone you know from
real life?
W: No. I’m glad I don’t have a Felix in my life. I’ve been happily married
for over15 years to Richard Marsh, a politician.
M: Celia, thank you for talking to me. I hope Hot Lips will be successful. 7. M: I’ve just finished college. I’ve been studying archaeology. And for
the last month I’ve been working as a postman. W: And what are you doing in London?
M: I’m trying to find a job. I’ve been going round museums to see if they
need anybody. I’ve been writing letters for weeks! W: Have you had many replies?
M: A few, but not many. I’ve written at least thirty letters.
W: Poor old you!Look, let’s go and have a cup of tea, and we can catch
up on some more news. M: What a lovely idea!
8. W: Hello? It’s Melanie speaking.
M: Hi Melanie. It’s Tim here. I’m really, really sorry about lunch today. W: I waited for a whole hour!
M: I was really busy at work and one o’clock went past without me even
noticing it! I truly am sorry. I should have remembered.
W: I’m really busy at the moment too. You really could have called a bit
earlier.
M: You’re right, I’m sorry. W: Well, it’s all right. Forget it.
M: No, I can’t forget it. Why don’t we have lunch on Wednesday? I promise
I’ll be there! W: I don’t know.
M: Come on, one o’clock! I’ll be there.
W: Well, OK… Oh, sorry I just remembered I have a hair appointment at that
time!
M: Oh, not to worry. Maybe we can meet at the same time on Thursday. W: Ah, yeah, that should be OK! Sorry, you’ll have to excuse me, I have
to cook dinner.
M: No problem. I’m really sorry for today. W: Don’t worry. It’s OK. See you Tim!
9. W: I’m fed up with sitting on packing cases, Joe. Don’t you think we
could buy at least two chairs? M: Do you know how much new chairs cost?
W: Yes, I know. It’s terrible. But I have an idea. Why don’t we look for
chairs at a street market? Look the guidebook here. Portobello Road. We’d better hurry up. It’s only open on Saturdays. M: OK. … …
W: Here we are. It’s very exciting, isn’t it? Look at that old tablecloth
and those beautiful curtains. M: Aren’t we looking for chairs?
W: Yes, but we need curtains. Come on. The curtains are beautiful but
they’re very dirty. But it’s a real bargain. M: Why don’t you wash them?
W: I can’t. They’re too big. I’ll have them dry-cleaned.
M: And what are you going to do about those holes? Can you mend them? W: I can’t. I’ll have them mended.
M: How much will all that cost? I never want to see another bargain, and
we still haven’t got any chairs.
10. W: Colour affects our moods, so think carefully about what colours you
use in your house! You could paint your living room walls green, for example, because green helps you to feel peaceful and calm, but don’t paint them red unless you want to be in a bad mood every time you’re in there! Thinking of painting your bedroom blue? Great idea! Blue will help you to concentrate and feel calm. Use another colour as well though as too much blue will make you sad. Add some yellow to keep things cheery! What about the kitchen? Well, how about painting the kitchen purple if you want to create imaginative new recipes? Orange is a good choice too. It’ll make you feel energetic. Why not paint the bathroom white to help you organize your thoughts while taking a relaxing bath? Stay away from black, though, unless you want to scare your guests!
Basically, it all depends on how you want to feel! For more information and advice from a professional colour expert, call 020-8765432.
