(2019·上海长宁区二模)

The bus screamed to a stop in Nazareth,Israel.Five Australian backpackers boarded and struck up a conversation with me.They asked typical travelers’ questions—where was I going and why was I traveling alone? My plan was to travel with a friend of a friend,I explained, but when I called her that morning, she didn’t pick up and I had no other way to reach her.My stomach was in knots, but I decided to head out anyway, thinking I might run into her if I traveled to Tiberias, where we had planned to go together.

“Why don’t you travel with us?” one of the backpackers offered. They were experienced adventurers who would work for a few months, save, then travel for as long as they could.Their current plan was to explore the Middle East and Europe in three months while working in London.

It seemed risky to travel with strangers, but my instinct said yes.For the next two weeks,I explored Israel with the backpackers and learned to trust my instinct in all types of new and interesting situations. When they hook a ride,I took the bus,but when they wanted to steal into the King David Hotel’s swimming pool,I led the way.The world opened up to me because I chose to travel alone.I joined complete strangers, who become close friends.Years later, one couple from the backpacking group even flew from Sydney to Phoenix to be in my wedding. The trip was such a special experience that it gave me confidence in all areas of my life.Since then,I’ve backpacked alone across South Africa,sky-dived from 12,000 feet in New Zealand and even moved across the U.S.with no job lined up.

On my third day wandering in Israel with my new friends,I bumped into the woman I was supposed to meet.Though I was happy she was all right,I was grateful she hadn’t picked up the phone. 语篇解读 这是一篇记叙文。作者原本与朋友约好去旅游,却被放了鸽子,她决定一个人去。途中她遇见了五个背包客,这些背包客邀请她一起去旅游,她和这些人一起经历了美好的几天,并和他们成了好朋友。 22.By “My stomach was in knots” (in Paragraph 1),the author most likely means that she was .

A.sick of riding on a bumpy bus B.nervous of meeting strangers C.upset about the sudden change D.sorry about the impractical plan 答案 C

解析 句意理解题。根据前文“My plan was to travel with a friend of a friend,I explained, but when I called her that morning, she didn’t pick up and I had no other way to reach her.”可知作者被朋友放鸽子了,被放鸽子肯定是失望的,C项(因为突然的变化而感到沮丧的)最符合作者此时的心情,所以选C。

23.Which of the following best describes the backpackers the author met? A.Courageous but disrespectful. B.Jobless and poorly educated. C.Warmhearted and trustworthy. D.Homeless but lighthearted. 答案 C

解析 推理判断题。根据第二段中“‘Why don’t you travel with us?’ one of the backpackers offered.”可知这些背包客邀请作者一起旅游,说明他们很热心;根据“They were experienced adventurers who would work for a few months, save, then travel for as long as they could.”可知这些背包客旅游经验很丰富,所以是值得信任的,综合选C。 24.The author’s sixth sense told her that . A.she would get along with the backpackers B.it might cause trouble to have a swim C.she ought to stay away from the backpackers D.it could add excitement to get a free ride 答案 A

解析 推理判断题。根据第三段中“It seemed risky to travel with strangers, but my instinct said yes.”可知这些背包客邀请作者一起旅游时,她的本能(instinct)也就是第六感说了“好”,也就是说她的第六感让她相信她能和这些背包客相处得很好,才会答应他们的邀请,故选A。 25.What can be inferred from the passage?

A.Most of the backpackers became the author’s lifelong friends. B.The author gathered the courage to be a fulltime backpack traveler. C.The woman missed the phone call with the purpose of traveling alone. D.The author considered it the best decision of her life to travel on her own. 答案 D

解析 推理判断题。根据第三段中“The world opened up to me because I chose to travel alone.”可知作者觉得自己选择一个人旅游让自己看到了更大的世界;再结合文章最后一句“Though I was happy she was all right,I was grateful she hadn’t picked up the phone.”可知作者庆幸她的朋友没有接她的电话。由此可以判断作者认为独自旅行是她一生中最好的决定,故选D。 Ⅳ.七选五

If you’re a first-time language learner, you know that emotional(情感的) ups and downs are a normal situation. When you understand a concept or begin to comprehend the language, you may experience feelings of excitement. However, those are often followed by moments of disappointment and discouragement, during which you might feel as if you will never master the concepts and attain the ability to understand and communicate effectively. 26 . Learn vocabulary effectively

Vocabulary is the most important part of communication. The more words you know, the more you can say and understand. The absolute best way to learn vocabulary is through the use of flash cards that you make yourself.Purchase a set of 3×5 index cards(索引卡片) and cut them in half. 27 .As you learn more information about each word,e.g.plural forms of nouns and principle parts of verbs, you can add these to the cards.

28

Research shows that language students learn more effectively and acquire more when they study frequently for shorter periods of time than if they study infrequently for extended periods of time. 29 .This means doing a few homework exercises each day rather than doing all homework exercises the night before they are due.

Practice language actively

30 .Say vocabulary words out loud, read passages in the text aloud,do pronunciation activities orally and not just mentally.Write out the answers to activities rather than gliding through them in your mind.Read aloud entire sentences in an activity rather than just reading a fill-in response.Transferring language from your mind to your mouth is a skill that requires a great deal of practice.

A.Break study time into smaller periods B.Then use flash cards as a learning tool C.Try to study each day,and several times a day D.The time-tested approaches are effective in your learning E.Write a word on the front and its English definition on the back

F.Whenever possible, speak the language aloud rather than reciting silently to yourself

G.Below are some approaches that will relieve your potential frustration and help you succeed in language learning

语篇解读 本文是一篇说明文,主要为语言初学者提供了学习语言的三条建议。 26.答案 G

解析 根据上文提到的语言初学者会在学习语言的过程中遇到挫折,认为自己不可能掌握那些概念,也不能获得有效地理解和进行交流的能力的内容及下文给出的三条学习语言的建议可知,此处应填一个起承上启下作用的句子。G项“下面是一些将缓解你潜在的挫折感,帮助你在语言学习方面取得成功的方法”符合语境。 27.答案 E

解析 根据空后的“As you learn more information about each word...you can add these to the cards”可知,当你学到更多有关每个单词的信息时,你可以把它们添加到卡片上。因此空处内容应涉及在卡片上记某些东西,故E项“把单词写在卡片的正面,并把它的英语释义写在背面”符合语境。 28.答案 A

解析 根据本段内容可知,语言学习者把学习时间分成各个小段来频繁地学习比一次学习很长时间取得的效果要好,因此本段提供的学习方法应是把学习时间分成小段来进行学习,故A项符合语境。 29.答案 C

解析 根据下文中的“This means doing a few homework exercises each day rather than doing all homework exercises the night before they are due.”可知,此处是说每天应该做一些家庭作业而不是拖到最后一刻一次性完成,故C项“试着每天都学习,并且一天学习多次”符合语境。 30.答案 F

解析 根据本段的小标题Practice language actively可知,本段主要讲的是要积极地练习语
