Déjàvu—the strange feeling of having been to this very place or done this very thing before when you now you haven’t—happens to most people at some point in their fives. The epression comes from the French, meaning“already seen.”

My friend Shannon new that she was going to marry her husband the clay that they met.She had dated a lot of men following her divorce, but none of them felt right. Then, she met Bob.There was something about the way he smiled, his voice and the shape of his hands, that made her thin that they had nown each other before. After taling it was clear that their paths had never crossed, but after their first lunch date, they became inseparable. What Shannon and Bob immediately felt for each other was more than just physical chemistry. It

was a natural understanding and a depth of closeness that usually arises after couples are together for many years. They were married two months after they met and have been together now for ten years.

I’m often ased how to tell the difference between a feeling of déjà vu when we first meet someone and all attraction stemming from an addictive obsession(痴迷).

There is a strong tendency among addicts to try to“fi”themselves with love, rushing prematurely into relationships inspired only by strong physical attraction. They often have nothing to do with déjà vu,but stem rather from a basic emptiness that longs to be filled. There is no true bond between the people involved, they hardly now each other, and these partnership attempts fail miserably when the pin glow of newness wears off. However, mostly déjà vu eperiences convey a quality that is quiet and solid. The possibility of having a déjà vu is eisting in partnerships of all inds, particularly the more intimate ones.It can occur in business, friendships and family, often leading to outcomes that can impact the direction of our life.

Déjà vus can tae place anywhere,at any time and with anyone.Don’t let these possibilities pass you by.Summoning the courage to tae a chance and act,to have faith in what is not yet visible, will mae the eperience your own. 28.What is déjà vu?

A.The feeling that one falls in love at first sight. B.The fact that one is often cheated by his belief. C.The wrong idea that couples share everything in life. D.The false belief that one has eperienced something before.

29.Why does the author mention his friend’s love story in Paragraph 2? A.To introduce the topic. B.To entertain the readers. C.To support the eplanation. D.To analye couple relationship.

30.In what way is déjà vu different from physical attraction?

A.It occurs a11 the time. B.It’s stable and lasts long. C.It involves a previous eperience. D.It appears only between couples.

31.What does the author suggest doing when déjà vu taes place? A.Practicing before acting. B.Calming down and letting it go.

C.Regarding it as nothing but imagination. D.Seiing the opportunity and taing actions.

When a laptop or smartphone battery starts losing its power, the only options are to buy an epensive replacement,or just eep it plugged in all the time. But a woman Mya Le Thai may have found the answer to this problem.

Thai was frustrated that the batteries for her wireless devices degraded(降级)over time, until they failed to charge fully. She did not lie having to eep her laptop connected to an electrical outlet to eep it powered on.So,she decided to do something about that problem. At first, she and her team at UC Irvine thought about inventing a new battery. But as they eperimented,Thai discovered something that might permit lithium—ion(锂离子)batteries to last forever.

Lithium-ion batteries power most wireless devices.Over time, the batteries lose the ability to hold a charge. Most of these batteries have a life span of about 7,000 charging cycles before they die.One of the reasons lithium—ion batteries degrade is their use of nanowires to carry electricity.Nanowires are etremely thin.A human hair is thousands of times thicer, for eample.Nanowires are etremely efficient carriers of electricity, which maes them useful in batteries.

But,Thai had a theory—the nanowires might last longer if covered with a gel(凝胶).She and her team tested this theory.“It was a long process and a lot of wor,”Thai said. The team tried many coverings for the wires.PMMA,a type of plastic, was one of them. The nanowires

were coated with PMMA and cycled through charges 200,000 times. The PMMA-coated nanowires showed no evidence of damage. The results suggest that batteries could last forever, without losing charging ability.

Thai hopes to continue her research to understand why this gel wors so well and to see if any other gel could create better results and she is enjoying the publicity about her discovery. She said she never epected her research to get media coverage.“It’s ind of cool,”she said.“I'm really glad people are showing interest in my wor and not just in the wor itself, but also in technology and energy.” 32.Why did Mya Le Thai wor on lithium-ion batteries?
