The Museum of London is starting to unearth what might turn out to be as many as 3,000 human skeletons(遗骸) under a train station in the United Kingdom’s capital. The bones were discovered when workers began building a new entrance to a train station in London, England.
As the first city burial(埋葬) ground in London, Bedlam was probably used between 1569 and 1738.Its name comes from the nearby Hospital of Saint Mary of Bethlehem, which people also called Bedlam. Often, the people buried in Bedlam could not afford to be buried anywhere else. The burial ground also served as an overflow cemetery(墓地). That means that if other cemeteries became full, a person would be buried in Bedlam instead. It is believed that there could be a total of 20,000 skeletons in the overall burial ground.Experts think studying the skeletons may help them learn about London’s past, including questions about the Black Death,a deadly disease that had a terrible influence on much of the world. It started in the mid-1300s and swept through Asia, Africa, and Europe. Historians believe almost 50 million people died of the disease, including many of those buried at Bedlam. “Sixteen sixty-five saw the very last recorded period of the disease,” says Jay Carver, the leading expert on the project. Carver and his team
believe the Bedlam may explain why the outbreak suddenly stopped.
The dig site also sits above an even older Roman road ( between the 2nd and 3rd century A.D.).Archaeologists have already found a large number of objects from Roman times, including horseshoes and urns. Nick Elsden, the project manager for the site, says, “ This is the UK’s largest archaeology project, in what is one of the oldest areas of the city, so we stand to learn a great deal.”

Earlier this week, 23 robots from all over the world competed in Pomona, California, for a $2 million prize in the DARPA Robotic Challenge. Teams have been working on these robots for three years---their challenge was to make a robot that can help after an earthquake or other natural disasters. The rules are simple---each robot has one hour to score eight points for different tasks, which include driving a car, or opening a door.
Every team has people in a separate garage, sitting around big screens and controlling their own robots. Across the garage stands Carnegie Mellon’s
bright red robot, CHIMP, “It has arms and hands but it moves around on these tracks,” said Tony Stentz, team leader of team Tartan Rescue. “CHIMP can go from upright to all—fours in just a few seconds. Weighing in at 440 pounds, CHIMP seems certain to win the competition.” He said.
During the early drive, CHIMP almost went into the barricade. It was slow getting out of the car, but once it made it out, and opened the door, it dropped to the ground in the doorway. For all the other teams, a fall means that humans have to step in and get the robot back on its feet. But about five minutes later, CHIMP got back up without any help.
The team didn’t get any points for that move, but recovering from a fall would come in pretty handy in a disaster area. And CHIMP still completed all the tasks in under an hour. “ What a bang-up job!” Tony Stentz said he received handshakes and high-fives from the crowd.
Though CHIMP was clearly the winner on the first day of the finals, it ran into lots of trouble on the second day and ended up coming in the third place overall. Team KAIST from South Korea, took the $2 million prize; Florida-based Team IHMC Robotics came in second and won $1 million . “After two days, hopefully we’re all a step closer to making humans safer after disaster,” added Tony Stentz.
25 According to Paragraph 1, these robots .
A are worth$2 million in total B are from 23 different countries
C are able think for themselves D are expected to do several pieces of work
26 During the competition, CHIMP .
A kept moving on all fours B fell down suddenly C scored eight points D beat Team KAIST 27 The underlined word “bang-up” in Paragraph 4 probably means
A good B easy C boring D dangerous
28 What is the purpose of this text?A To introduce a clever robot. B To discuss the future of robots
C To ask children to make robots D To report a robotic competition

A new law in Arizona requires high school students to pass the United States’ citizenship test. There’re 100 questions on US history and government in the test.
The Joe Foss Institute helped created the law. They want to pass a law in each of the 50 states to require high school students to pass the test. A 2020 national test showed only about 25 percent of students in their final year of high school had a good understanding of American government. Thirty-six percent did not have even a basic understanding.
“ That’s a shame, and it’s not only a shame.” Said John Hale, the Associate Director of the Center for Civic Education in California. Mr. Hale thinks it is dangerous when citizens do not know or care about how their government works. He says students do not only to learn facts about government. They should also learn how to take part in their communities. “ Requiring high school students to take the test might be a way to improve students’ civic behavior,” he says.
But some wonder if a test young people take in high school will make adults more active in their communities.
Sam Stone writes reports for the Joe Foss Institute. He says research shows that civic education does result in more involved adults. He noted a 2020 survey found that the more young people studied civics in high school, the more likely they were to get actively involved in their communities. In another state, Virginia, many people are against the test. Meg Gruber is the president of the Virginia Education Association. She says students
already take classes in civics and US history. And, she says, schools should not have to pay more for the test.
Sam Stone agrees. He says his organization is paying for an online testing website. Schools can use the website to give the test for free. 29 The US citizen test .
A is a required test all over America B was created by the Joe Foss Institute
C helps students understand America government D has been included in American law for five years 30 What might John Hale agree with?
A How the US government works should not be open to the public. B It’s a shame that the US government is unpopular with students. C Community activities outweigh facts about the US government. D The US citizenship test will be good for students and society 31 The result of the 2020 survey .
A was different from Sam Stone’s findings
B showed civics helped students become more active citizen C led more young people to learn civics
D showed students were as interested as adults in their government 32 What did Meg Gruber think of the citizen test?
A Unimportant B Unpleasant C Acceptable D Fair D
