Glad to know you’re making progress. I’m also making preparations and I want to say you are not alone there.
Academically, I think we should follow our teachers’ advice since they’re experienced and always helpful. Moreover, it would be a great idea to focus on your reviewing plans and make some timely adaptations if necessary. For me, what I am doing now is going through the test papers I have finished recently and learning by my mistakes. I find this helps a lot.
As for how to be emotionally ready, keeping believing in yourself, communicating more with parents, and having fun with your peers will help you relax yourself and get through all these.
In addition, eat well, sleep well and exercise regularly. Following your established routine can guarantee your good performance in the examinations.
I’m very excited about your travel plan. I can’t wait to join you and I’m sure we’ll have a great time!
Best of Luck!
Li Hua (150 words) 录音稿 第一节 l.
M: How did you go to Canada. Jane? Did you fly?
W: I was planning to, because it' s such a long trip by bus or by train. But Fred decided to drive and invited me to join him. It took us two days and a night. 2.
M: Hi, Lily. I've got a new place to live. W: Hey, that's great. What' s it like.?
M: Well, it's real old and it' s pretty small, but the best thing is it's a five-minute walk to school! 3.
W: How's your summer job going, Ted?
M: It' s great. I love it. I never realized working in a kitchen could be so much fun. 4.
M: Do you think we should go and see it?
W: Yes, I think so. I hear it's very good. My friend said the story is great. And I love Arnold Schwarzenegger.
M: So do I. His movies are always full of action. 5.
W: Excuse me. I' m looking for the Greek Restaurant.
M: Oh sure. I know where it is. It's one of my favorite restaurants. Go left here on King Street. Then turn right onto Second Street for a block. The Greek Restaurant is on your left, on the corner Ford and Second. W: Thanks. M: You' re welcome. 第二节 6.
W: So what are your plans for this summer, David?
M: Well, I could work for that restaurant again. But I have a great chance to do some traveling and
learn more about the world. W: What’s that?
M: My friend, Bill, is going to travel around Europe this summer ---- he has some relatives in
France he wants to visit, and he plans to go to Germany, too. W: What about the hotels when you’re not staying with Bill’s relatives?
M: We’ll stay in youth hotels. They’re really cheap. I have enough money saved from my
part-time job.
W: What about money for next year? For your books and other expenses?
M: Well, I’ll need to borrow a little from you. But this is a once-in-a-lifetime chance. I really
think I could learn a lot, and I can improve my French, too. 7.
M: Alice, I’m so happy to see you! I need some help. W: What’s the problem, Ali?
M: Well, you know I never cooked before I came here. I asked my mother how to cook so I can
make my favorite dishes. She sent me these, but I don’t understand the instructions. W: I can try to help. What are the instructions you don’t understand?
M: First it says to “chop” some potatoes. My dictionary says “chop” means to cut. What do I cut
the potatoes with?
W: Chop just means to cut them up into very small pieces with a knife. M: Oh, OK. I get it. Now this one says to “brown” the potatoes. W: That means to cook it in a little oil until it turns brown all over.
M: I’ve never seen “brown” as a verb before! Thank you a lot. I’ll invite you for dinner when I
finish! 8.
M: Look at the traffic. The city’s a terrible place to live in. I’m glad I live in Buxton. W: You’re joking! Birmingham’s much more exciting than Buxton. M: Exciting, maybe. But Buxton is cleaner, healthier and less expensive.
W: It’s probably cheaper to live in Buxton because there’s not much to spend your money on.
There’s much to do in the city and the people are friendlier, too.
M: Well, the countryside isn’t as boring as you think, you know. And I don’t think me people are
friendlier here. City life just isn’t for me! 9.
M: What are you going to study, Anna?
W: I don’t know. My parents said they would pay for my studies if I majored in law. M: What will they do if you don’t study law?
W: They won’t give me any money, and I won’t be able to study. But I don’t want to major in
law. If I had wanted to major in law, I wouldn’t have studied so much biology, in high school, would I?
M: That’s a hard situation. I don’t know what I should study either. I want to go to art school.
But my father says that he wants me to work in his bank.
W: I thought you were going to be an artist, David. If you become a banker I’ll never speak to
you again!
M: But if I become a banker. I’ll have a lot of money. I’ll be able to retire early and become an
artist. 10.
Good afternoon! As you know this is the course in beginning, Political Theory. We will meet each Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at 8 o’clock for the next twelve weeks. Each Monday I’ll give a lecture on the different ideas in political thoughts. On Wednesday, you’ll hand in a one-page paper on the topic and there is a group who’ll discuss the related problem. On Thursday, I’ll return your papers with suggestions for review. Over the weekend, you will rewrite your paper and hand it in the following Monday. I’ll grade only the rewritten paper. Keep this paper brief, because I’ll come to the classroom on Thursday and Friday afternoon to discuss your paper with you. Are there any questions?
