国内杂志在封面制作上往往存在如下问题
一、创新不足，雷同现象严重
走进琳琅满目的期刊市场，如果不仔细辨别刊名，一些刊物很难通过封面一眼辨别是何种期刊。
二、制作粗糙，水准较低
一些期刊封面设计者缺乏专业水平，对封面设计认识肤浅，设计平庸，制作比较粗糙，随意性较大，水准不高，印刷质量也很低。
三、因循守旧，审美观念老化
一些期刊的美编不注重艺术理论的学习、知识的更新和艺术技巧的提高，不进行市场调查，不关注读者反映，躲在画室里闭门造车，为设计而设计，主观性较大，对读者审美的认识多年停滞在一个层面，至今设计的封面仍停留在上世纪90年代以前的水平，和市场脱节，和读者脱节。
四、没有考虑期刊的连续性，风格不固定
一些期刊的封面上一期和下一期在用图、风格上都有很大变化，波动不断，让人难以分辨该刊物的真面目。
五、缺乏品牌意识
封面设计是期刊品牌形象的制高点，它直接影响受众对品牌的认知度、好感度和美誉度。但一些期刊封面设计缺乏品牌意识，在构思布局、选取图片时不注意为Ⅵ(视觉识别)服务，影响了期刊形象的提升，不利于品牌建设。
