A woman was waiting at a train station one night, with several long hours before departure. She bought a book and a bag of cookies in a shop, and found a place to drop.

She was reading her book, but the man sitting beside her grabbed a cookie or two from the bag in between, which she tried to ignore (忽视) the scene, so she ate the cookies and watched the clock, as the cookie thief kept eating.. She was getting angrier and thinking,“Oh, brother, if I weren’t so nice, I would blacken your eyes.”With each cookie she took, he took one, too. When only one was left, she wondered what he would do. With a smile on his face, he took the last cookie and broke it in half. He offered her half, and he ate the other. She thought, “ This guy is also rude! Why he didn’t he even show any thanks!”She had never known when she had been so angry and sighed with relief when her train was called. She gathered her bag and headed to the gate, refusing to look back at the rude thieve.

Children grow quickly, especially their feet, but many families cannot buy new shoes each time a child needs them. As a result, about 300 million children around the world go barefoot. Those children risk picking up diseases and parasites(寄生虫) from the soil.

An American man may have a solution for those barefoot kids — a shoe that grows with the child. Kenton Lee is the creator of The Shoe That Grows. He explains how the shoe works and how it is able to last so long.

So they had to cut open the front of her shoes to let their toes stick out. I want to do something to help them, so i invent these shoes."

Up to now, they have sent more than 50000 pairs of shoes to 70 countries. A pair of shoes, he says, give a child not only protection, but also self-worth. It is a small invention but really does make a big different in these children’s life

There are two factors which determine your IQ. The first is the sort of brain he is born with. Human brains are various, some baby will be more clever than others. But no matter how good a brain he has to begin with, an individual will have a low order of IQ unless he has opportunities to learn. So the second factor is what happens to the you — the sort of environment in which you are living. If an individual is handicapped(残废的) environmentally, it is likely that his brain will fail to develop and he will never attain the level of intelligence of which he is capable.

The importance of environment in determining an individual's intelligence can be demonstrated by the case history of the identical twins, Peter and Mark X(同卵双胞胎). Being identical, the twins had identical brains at birth, and their growth processes were the same. When the twins were three months old, their parents died, and they were placed in separate foster homes.Peter was reared by parents of low intelligence in an isolated community with poor educational opportunities.Mark was reared in the home of well-to-do parents who had been to college. He was read to as a child, sent to good schools, and given every opportunity to be stimulated(激励) intellectually. This environmental difference continued until the twins were in their late teens, when they were given tests to measure their intelligence.Mark's I. Q.was 125, twenty-five points higher than the average and fully forty points higher than his identical brother. Given equal opportunities, the twins, having identical brains, would have tested at roughly the same level.

What does the passage mainly talk about? A: What are some babies cleverer than others B: How to be cleverer than others? C:What influences your IQ? D: How to measure your IQ

62. What does the underlined word”intellectually”mean in the passage? A: 智力上 B: 精神上 C: 体力上 D: 艺术上

63. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

A: The brain a person is born with isn’t important in determining his IQ B: Environment plays an important part in determining a person’s IQ
