1.guarantee vt. 保证；确保

n．保证，担保；保证书

(1)guarantee to do sth. 保证去做某事 保证/担保某人某事 guarantee sb.sth. guarantee sth. to sb. 向某人担保/保证某事 在保修期内 (2)(be) under guarantee eg.

①Buying a train ticket doesn't guarantee you a seat. 买一张火车票并不能保证你一定会有座。 ②My computer is still under guarantee. 我的电脑仍在保修期内。

2.rate n. 价格；费用；速度；比率；速率

vt.& vi. 评估；评价 以……的速度 (1)at a/the rate of... at any rate 无论如何；不管怎么说；至少

at this/that rate 照此情形；如此下去

评定……价值为…… (2)rate...at... rate...as... 把……评为/视为……

eg. ①The car was going at the rate of 80 miles an hour. 这辆汽车正以每小时80英里的速度行驶。

②If you go on at that rate，you'll injure your health. 如果你继续那样下去的话，你会搞垮身体的。

句型一：There is no need to do sth. 没有必要做某事 eg.

③It is no use/good doing sth. 做某事没有用处/好处

句型二：when (it is) necessary 有必要时...... eg.

①Apologise when necessary. 有必要的时候道歉。

②You can look up the words in the dictionary when necessary. 有必要的时候你可以在字典里查这些单词。 注意：when,if,unless,whether等连词引导状语从句时，常省略从句中的it + is/was eg.

①Come early if (it is ) possible. 如果可能，早点过来。

②Turn off the machine unless (it is) used. 关掉机器，除非使用。
