In London, to avoid the traffic jams above ground, people use the “Underground”， also called the “Tube”. The city has the oldest and most complicated underground railway systems in the world and the Underground is the pride of many Londoners. With 12 lines and 275 stations across the city, the Underground, is normally the quickest and easiest way of getting across London. In London, you are never far from a tube station.

New York is famous for its yellow cabs. They serve as a quick and easy way of getting across Manhattan, where the subway doesn't take you everywhere. Since 1873 when the first cable car started public service, the slow and noisy vehicle has been a symbol of San Francisco. Although once damaged by a serious earthquake and challenged by cars, the cable car is never caught in traffic jams, and it provides better views than the subway.

But there are no such symbols in Los Angeles. If you visit this city, you'd better rent a car. The city's public transportation is terrible. It can take hours to get across the town by bus. The subway covers just a small part of the city centre. The light rail line only runs between the Long Beach Hotel and the city centre. That's why Angelenos (洛杉矶人) love their private cars more than any other people in the world.

frightening. The highest peak in the state, Mt. Elbert, is so simple to climb that one man rode a 24-year-old bicycle to the peak last year.

Another sign that climbing Colorado's highest peaks is not very difficult is the number of climbers each summer. After going down from Torreys Peak one weekend in August, I counted over seventy cars in the parking lot. On a weekend of another August, I passed fifty people in different stages (路段) of climbing Mt. Elbert. Last year, 4,226 people climbed Longs Peak. Its parking lot today is about a quarter-mile long.

In a word, Colorado's peaks are not hard to climb. Most of them take only a day to climb, require no more than simple climbing skills, and are topped by many people each year.

Daydreaming means people think about something pleasant, especially when this makes them forget what they should be doing. Daydreamers have a bad reputation for not realizing what's happening around them.
