Whether you’re already to or not, it’s time to say goodbye to Mckinley High School.
US hit musical comedy Glee was brought to a close after six seasons on March 20. The final episode(集) first took viewers back to the very beginning, when the original members of New Directions joined the Glee club. Then it looked five years forward into the future, showing whether some of the main characters’ dreams came true.
The show first caught my attention because it reminded me of Slam Dunk, an animated childhood favorite about basketball. Both shows were developed around a group of teenagers who had various difficulties, but through the music of Glee and the sport of Slam Dunk, they found strength and acceptance.
At the beginning of Glee, ambitious teacher Will Schuester wanted to turn the school’s Glee club New directions from losers into state champions. However, every number of the team was a kind of outsider. Finn Hudson was a football player whose friends laughed at him for putting singing before sports. Rachel Berry, the highly confident lead, desperately wanted fame. Mercedes Jones struggled with weight problems. Artie Abrams, a wheelchair-bound guitar player, always felt less than a part of the group because of his disability.
Through the journeys of these characters, the show sent its central message:Always be yourself, no matter what others think.
The big secret to the Emmy Award-winning show’s success, without a doubt, was its music. Music lovers, just by watching Glee, could keep up with the latest trends in pop music. The show covered hit songs from popular artists, with superstars including Adam Lambert and Britney Spears starring as guest performers. Music from Glee began sweeping the pop music charts shortly after its debut(首映) in 2009, a year after Disney’s High School Musical series. In 2010, the Glee soundtrack(原声) hit No.1 on the Billboard 200 chart.
With great music and dancing, moments to make you cry and popular guest stars, you had all the charm of a successful musical drama. But most importantly, the show was loved by its young fans, known as “Gleeks”. “Glee was a show about outsiders… and made them heroes,” commented the Boston Herald.
60. According to the article, an outsider is probably someone _________.
A. who is desperate for fame B. who doesn’t really fit in with others C. who is talented in some way D. who is very successful

The fantasy tale of rabbit holes, smiling cats, magic cakes, secret doors and a curious girl called Alice is loved by children an adults the world over.
First published in 1865 by UK author Lewis Carroll, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is still one of the world’s most famous works of fantasy. “The story is very much a part of the popular culture,” said Ron Patkus, head of special collections at US Vassar College’s library. “There have been many film, television, and dramatic adaptations of the novel since the early 20th century.”
To celebrate its 150th birthday this year, Royal Mail has released a set of stamps in honor of Alice, who leads us down a rabbit hole into a dreamy world in the story. Here we see a series of strange but impressive scenes: a tea party that goes on all day and a cruel Queen who says she is going to cut off someone’s head every two minutes. Meanwhile, we see Alice growing to a mile high.
Why are people still enthralled by her spell—or rather, the spell cast by UK author Lewis Carroll? Professor Will Brooker of Kingston University London, author of Alice’s Adventures: Lewis Carroll in Popular Culture, told The Telegraph that the story itself, with its theme of an innocent youngster trying to make sense of a strange adult world, is enough. Or as the SparkNotes website put it, life is wonderful, but it can fail to meet your expectations too. However, if you can think like a child, you will release your inhibitions (顾虑) and think differently. And Wonderland is the place to do this.
What’s more, Brooker believes that “each generation has interpreted the text in ways that are shown in their culture”.
Helen Anders, a writer with the Daily Beast, agreed. “Had it been written today, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland would certainly be thought to be about American politics, with its trails as strange as those in Alice’s universe,” she wrote.
63. To celebrate the 150th birthday of Alice’s Adventures in wonderland, ____________.
A. a set of stamps has been released B. a theme park about the story has been built C.a new movie adaptation has been released D.an award has been set up in honor of the author
64. The underlined word “enthralled” in paragraph 4 is closest in meaning to __________. A. frightened B. interested C. disappointed D. controlled
65. Why has Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland stayed popular according to Professor Will Brooker?
A. Alice’s adventures inspire children to go on adventures.
B. It shows what the adult world is like through children’s eyes. C. its shows that life can always meet children’s expectations. D. It reveals the dark side of American politics in modern times.

Studying in the US, I find that many Chinese students are too shy to socialize with American students. They say it’s the language barrier that stops them. But in my mind, the reasons are beyond language.
The first reason may be that these students feel a little inferior to American students, especially when they don’t speak English well. Because of the cultural and economic differences between the Western and Eastern worlds in General, some Chinese students subconsciously think highly of western students.
Second, some Chinese students are too afraid of feeling embarrassed. Because of the language problem, Chinese students often find it hard to understand the jokes or puns their American peers make. Some may feel so embarrassed that they try to avoid talking to Americans.
There is also a cultural reason. China and the US have very different cultures. It’s natural that students from these two countries find it hard to understand each other. Some Chinese students choose not to watch American TV shows or listen to American music since they don’t understand the jokes in American comedy or the lyrics of a popular song. That leads to further gap between themselves and American peers.
I’m no expert, but I do want to give a few tips to students who are planning to study abroad and are keen to fit in.
First, be confident. Your foreign classmates are not superior to you. Don’t think of them all as sophisticated(复杂的), hard-to-reach people.
Second, always say yes to social activities whether they are organized by your school or your friends. Go to watch sports games even if you are not playing and are just there to cheer for the team.
Third, don’t try to improve your English merely by memorizing vocabulary. Try to watch TV shows, read popular books, and just talk to people. Remember, language is not a barrier and it never will be. The real barriers exist because you are not trying. Problem for many They are too shy to __66___ to American peers.
