Migingo, a tiny rock island on Lake Victoria in Kenya, measures just 0.49 acres.By all accounts, it was originally settled by two Kenyan fishermen, who came here in 1991.Others say it was found by a Ugandan, who came here first and then brought his fishing friends. It was this kind of contradicting stories and the battle over the island's fish-rich waters that created a conflict over the ownership of Migingo between Kenya and Uganda.
Back in 2009, Migingo has a population of 131, but the number has ballooned to around 1,000.Drawn by the large population of Nile perch, fishermen from Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania crowded into Migingo. In spite of measures set in place to keep population under control, the place becomes packed to the point where there's little room to walk in.
What's even more surprising is that just a few meters away lies a much larger and completely uninhabited (无人居住的) island called Usingo. It is said that the place is home to a demon(魔鬼), and fishermen are afraid to even set foot on it, let alone live there with their families. But it turns out that that is just a tale online.Locals haven't even heard about any demons, but they do have a very practical reason.
Even though there are several policemen from both Uganda and Kenya, pirate(海盗) attacks still occur. They are not as frequent and violent as they used to be, but every few months fishermen do run into pirates stealing their catch and boat engines, sometimes even killing them in the process. But there is strength in numbers, so it's safer for most people to live on Migingo than to risk moving to Usingo and getting attacked during the night.
Migingo remains the highest population density (密度) worldwide, but it may not hold that title for much longer.Due to over-fishing around the island, the supply of Nile perch is on the decrease, and people are starting to move to other fishing spots.
( )1.What makes Migingo different from other islands? A.It belongs to two countries. B.It has the densest population. C.It attracts the most tourists. D.It is home to brave fishermen.
( )2.Why don't fishermen stay on Usingo? A.They can't get a huge catch of fish. B.They believe the tale online to be true. C.They may be attacked by pirates at night. D.They can't be protected by policemen there. ( )3.What may happen to Migingo in several years? A.It will cause more violent conflicts. B.It will be an unsuitable place to live. C.It will be deserted by some fishermen. D.It will have the largest population of fish.

May Day(五朔节), the first day of May, is celebrated as a spring festival in many countries. It marks the approach of summer.
The English developed their May Day festival from the Roman festival called Floralia. In the festival of Floralia, the Romans gathered flowers to honor the goddess of spring, Flora. In the Middle Ages, May Day became the favorite holiday of many English villages.People gathered flowers to decorate their homes and churches, sang spring songs and chose a king and a queen of May.Villagers danced around a tall pole fixed upright in the ground, called a maypole, each
holding the end of a ribbon attached to the top of the pole. They tied the ribbons around the pole until it was covered with bright colors. They collected dew(露水) on May Day morning and washed their faces with it because they believed that the dew on the day had the magic power to regain youth.
Nowadays in Britain people no longer attach great importance to the day, but in some towns and villages people still celebrate it by choosing the May Queen and dancing around the maypole.May Queen is a girl selected as the most beautiful girl on May Day.She is usually crowned with flowers and often driven in procession through the street. In the United States, the day has never been celebrated with the same enthusiasm as in Britain.
But in many American towns and cities, children celebrate the day with dancing and singing. They often gather flowers in handmade paper baskets and hang them on the doorknobs of the homes of their friends' and neighbors' on May Day morning. At May Day parties, children select May Queen, dance around the maypole, and sing May Day songs.
( )4.What do we know about the May Day in Britain in the Middle Ages? A.People dressed in bright colors. B.People celebrated it with enthusiasm.
