When Justin was 16, a car accident caused a rare disease that robbed him of his legs. By his mid-20s, he was using a wheelchair full time.
His condition, however, didn’t rob him of his love for travelling. “I’ve found that
travelling is the best way to experience other cultures, form new and exciting
relationships, and gain greater understanding of yourself,” Justin wrote on his website, the Disabled Traveler. “Yes, there are many challenges that come with that, but in the end, the experiences and memories my family and I now share has made all of my efforts worthwhile!”
In 2012, Justin saw a television program about the 800-kilometer Santiago pilgrimage（朝圣）in northern Spain. He immediately knew it was for him. “When I first learned about it, it was like something deep inside me was calling me to do it,” he wrote.
Justin showed his program to his childhood best friend, Gray. “I will push you,” Gary responded.
In July, the friends set off on the long journey, with Gary pushing Justin in a specialized wheelchair.
“We believe in some way, all of us has limitations. We can be limited by diseases, situations or resources. At worst, these limitations can invite losing hope. They can
make us stop in our road if we let them. But what if we hide our pride, and ask for help? Can we learn that to achieve our goals requires trust and faith in others? Even it is difficult to communicate with others.” Justin said.
