【点拨】
(1) population单独作主语时，谓语动词用第三人称单数形式。如：
The population of China is the largest in the world.中国的人口在世界上是最多的。 (2) population作主语且有分数或百分数修饰时，其谓语动词常用复数形式。如： Three fifths of the population are peasants.人口中有五分之三是农民。
