一、导入
1.T:Let’s chant Ss:Chant together
Taller↑ taller↓ The dinosaur is much taller. Shorter↑ shorter↓ The duck is much shorter. Older↑ older↓ The turtle is much older. Younger↑ younger↓ The little baby is much younger. Longer↑ longer↓ The Changjiang River is much longer. Shorter↑ shorter↓ The rabbit’s tail is much shorter. 2.T:Good job.Now Let’s use these words(taller tallest shorter shortest older oldest younger youngest longer longest) to make sentences.

S1:Sarah’ s hair is longer than Amy’s hair.
S2:I am 11.He is 12.I am younger than him.He is older than me. S3:The Changjiang River is the longest river in china.
【设计意图】:chant是学生喜闻乐见的朗读方式。读起来朗朗上口,既激发了学生学习英语的兴趣,又巩固了所学单词,同时练习了much+形容词比较级的结构;让学生用所学形容词比较级和最高级来造句,锻炼学生用英语说话的能力,培养学生的发散性思维。
二、新授
1.T:(plays the tape)please follow the tape for 2 times. Ss:Follow
2.T:Now try to read the new words in pairs and find the rules of the comparative forms of adjectives.
S1:一般在词尾加er e.g.smaller stronger
以辅音字母加y结尾的词,把y变为i,再加er e.g.heavier
重读闭音节,末尾只有一个辅音字母,双写这个辅音字母,再加er e.g.bigger thinner
【设计意图】:只有听得准才能模仿的准,说的好。所以听录音模仿语音、语调是学习英语非常重要的一步,合作学习,小组互助既有利于学生合作精神的养成,也有助于每个学生都更好掌握读音。通过跟读录音、小组互读,感知新授单词和句子,培养学生记忆力和自己拼读单词的能力,进而发现形容词比较级的变化规则。
探究一: T: You are so smart. Perfect summary.
T:(shows a picture of a fat man.)Boys and girls.look at the man.His name is wilde.What’s he like?
Ss:He is fat.
S1:He has a big belly.
T:Yeah! A big belly.(blackboard-writing:big).
T:He eats too much.So his belly is getting ...(action prompt)

T:Exactly (blackboard-writing;heavy heavier) He is unhealthy.He is always ill.Then What will he do?
Ss:He will run./He will play sports everyday./He will do more exercise...
T:Then what will he be?
Ss:He will be thin/be strong/be healthy...(blackboard-writing:thin strong)
S2:His belly will be small.
T:Excellent girl!(laughs and blackboard-writing small and smaller) T:(shows a picture of a thin man)You are right.After doing exercise,he is getting thinner and thinner. stronger and stronger (blackboard-writing:thinner and stronger)
T:To be thinner/stronger/healthier,What else can we do?
Ss:To be thinner/stronger/healthier,We can walk fast/take a trip... 【设计意图】:创设情景,用王尔德的大肚子引出本课新单词,提高学生学习热情和积极性,引导学生反复运用形容词比较级。(bigger and bigger...To be healthier...)教育学生注意正确的饮食和锻炼,提倡健康的生活方式,树立正确的健康观
探究二: T:Great! I think so.Taking a trip is a good way to keep healthy.Wilde thinks so.Look!(shows a picture) He is taking a trip with his friends.What are they doing?
Ss:They are fishing.
T: Whose fish is bigger/smaller/heavier/thinner/stronger? S1:Mike’s fish is thinner than Sarah’ s fish.
