Unit 3 Travel journal

---Reading

1.Knowledge:

(1)Learn the following new words and their pronunciation: Mekong,finally,cycle,persuade,stubborn,insist,source,properly,detail,determine,determined,altitude,atlas,glacier,rapids,valley,waterfall,plain,delta. (2)Learn something about the Mekong River through reading. 2.Ability:

Develop the students’ reading ability and let them learn to use some reading strategies such as skimming, scanning, and so on. 3.Emotion:

1.Students should realize if they want to be successful, what personalities they should have.

2.Stimulate students’ love for nature and love for our country by getting them to know the greatness of nature and the beauty of life. 4.Useful points

Get students to learn different reading skills (skimming, scanning)and especially the abilities of understanding the implied meanings. 5.Difficult points

(1)Know the meanings and pronunciation of the new words.

(2)Learn different reading skills for different reading purposes. 6.Teaching aids

Multimedia classroom and other normal teaching tools. Teaching procedures

Step 1 warming up

1.Show them a short video of Bear Grills,and get them to describe the famous adventurer in their own words.

2.Then tell them that there is a sister and a brother who is doing the same thing as Bear---having an adventure along a famous river.

Step 2 Lead -in

Lead the topic into rivers .And ask :If you plan to travel along a river, what will you do? first you must know about the river well.so let’s learn something about a famous river in Asia—the Mekong River. Step 3 Pre-reading

1.Enjoy some pictures about several rivers.And tell them why is the Mekong famous.Then tell the students that I knew the river from a famous movie.To Stimulate their love for our country.

2. Can you list the countries that the Mekong River flows through?Then show them the countries the Mekong River flows through.

3.Teaching them some new words for describing the river. (glacier.valley.waterfall.delta.plain.rapids...) Step 4 Reading

In this step, get the students to read the text and finish some tasks. Task1: Scan the text quickly, then match the main ideas. Para.1 different attitudes(态度) about the trip

Para.2 preparation before the trip and details about Mekong river Para.3 dream about taking a great bike trip along the Mekong River. Task2:Careful reading
