Chinese pop singer Faye Wong and her husband Li Yapeng set up a foundation named Smile Angel Foundation(嫣然天使基金会) in Beijing.
This foundation was named after their daughter, Li Yan, who was born with cleft lip (兔唇). It was to help children under 4 years old. And it helped more than 400 children from poor families who had got cleft lip receive operations for free last year.
Li said that he and his wife didn?t want to cover up the truth of their daughter?s illness because they didn?t want to miss the best chance to cure their daughter. ?All we do is for the benefit (受益) of our daughter and for a good environment for her treatment,? he said.

Lin Xueheng is Taiwanese working in Shanghai. Last Monday he was very happy to see daily direct flights open between Taiwan and mainland(大陆).
Lin had to live on the mainland in the past. But ?now I can return home each day,? he said.
Direct air, shipping and postal services across the Straits（海峡）began on December 15. The people on the two sides have been waiting for links for nearly 60 years.
Direct flight
There were passenger flights between the two sides only at weekends and on the four major traditional Chinese festivals. But now direct flights have started between 21 mainland and eight Taiwanese cities. Travelers no longer need to switch(换) planes at a third point (in the past, Hong Kong or Macao).
The distance of the direct flight between Beijing and Taipei is 1,100 kilometers

shorter than the old route via(通过) Hong Kong. The flight time is now an hour and 20 minutes shorter. At least eight tons of fuel(燃料) can be saved on one single flight.
Shipping & postal services
Ships from Tianjin now take four days to get to Taiwan. That?s almost half the time it used to take. They no longer have to break at a Japanese Island.
Direct postal services cover express mail(快递), parcels(包裹) and remittances(汇款). It cuts half of the delivery time and cost.
