My son has always had a terrible fear (害怕) of fast roller coasters (过山车). But recently, my son decided he was going to ride one although he was still afraid. He sat next to me on the roller coaster, and I could almost hear his heart beating. That roller coaster was almost too fast for me! When the ride was finally over and we were leaving, my son was so happy. He kept saying again and again,“Dad, I conquered (征服) my fear!”

Many people don’t know that on the other side of our fear is a much better life for us. When we face the fear and conquer it, we can reach our full potential (潜力). George Patton once said,“Fear kills more people than death.” You see, death kills us only once, but fear kills us over and over again. ▲ Fear is a warning signal (信号). It's not to ask us to close our eyes, but to open them wider. If we keep closing our eyes to our fear, we’ll never really live life to the fullest.

Remember, there’s a first time for everything — whether it’s riding a bike or public speaking. Running right at your fear and conquering it will be the greatest feeling. ( ) 29. Why did the writer’s son decide to ride the roller coaster?

Many families share photos of their children on the Internet. Has your mom or dad ever posted a photo of you on the Internet that you didn’t want anyone outside your family to see? Usually, a parent will post almost 1,000 photos of a child online before the child turns 5, according to a recent survey.

Parents often post photos on the Internet because they want to share their children’s important events and special moments with friends and family. Some parents do it as a way to communicate with other parents. They may be looking for health tips or other advice. Most parents don’t ask their children for permission (允许) before posting photos of them. They feel it is not necessary to ask their children first and they don’t think there will be any possible risk.

Some parents and child experts believe that kids older than 6 should be consulted (商量). They say that photos can stay online for many years and that kids should have some control over their online presence (存在). Devorah Heitner, a writer, believes that parents should get

their kids’ permission before posting their photos. “It teaches your child that his or her photo is his or her own,” she said.

What do you think? Should parents get their kids’ permission before posting photos of them online? Send your replies to tfkasks4you@timeforkids. com. Your reply may be printed in a future issue (期) of TIME For Kids.

( ) 33. According to Paragraph 2, parents post their children's photos online to ______. ① share their children's special moments ② get more likes and fans ③ look for some advice

A. how to post photos on the Internet B. a discussion about posting photos online C. posting photos online is becoming popular

On January 27, in order to win the new pneumonia Resistance War(抗击新型肺炎战), the Ministry of Education issued(教育部公布) a notice on putting off the start time of school in spring 2020. It was said that school should not start before March.

However, many parents are very worried that putting off the start of school may affect(影响) children's studies. If they have such a long winter vacation, children will not learn anything, read books or study at all. Staying at home for a long time will make them keep eating, sleeping and playing, which seriously affect their physical and mental(心理的) health. In short, the close of school influences learning and develops bad habits, so how should we avoid these problems?

Local education departments have also issued a notice, that is, to organize online teaching and create a network platform(平台), where necessary courses will be shown every day, and online teaching will be given by excellent teachers of the subject, students can learn at home through computer or mobile network. It can not only keep students indoors and not worry about the infection(感染) of the virus(病毒), but also make them study at home, improve their learning ability, and truly achieve “no suspension of classes”. Both the platform itself and the recorded lesson resources are more useful, and are welcomed by parents and teachers.

Of course, except for learning at home, it is also necessary to teach children about health knowledge, especially how to keep away from touching virus; at the same time, it is also necessary for children to do some exercises or some games, which is good for health at home. ( )37. Parents worried about putting off the start time of school because _______. Recently, students in our class had a discussion about whether children should do volunteer work.

Some of us agree. They think doing volunteer work can help them get the ideal job in the future. At the same time doing the thing can also help others.

On the other hand, others disagree. They think the children are too young to look after others. They also have too much schoolwork to do. They have too much pressure. They don't have enough free time to do volunteer work.

In my opinion, I think children should do volunteer work because I think volunteering is great. I not only feel good about helping others but also get to spend time doing what I love to do. And from volunteering I can learn many things that I have never learned in class.
