Ask the following questions , let the students use “yes” or “no” to answer them as quickly as possible. Tell them :We’ll have a competition, see who is the quickest
student in class.
Can we do homework after school?
…play computer games… listen to the teachers in class … watch TV on school nights… read a book … play soccer in the street… listen to music in class … eat anything in class… draw on the wall … sing songs in math class.
This activity helps students have a general idea about rules and present some new words.
2. Teach new words and key sentences.
Show the pictures to the students. Discuss what the pictures mean in groups. Then they will say the rules to the whole class. The teacher will give a sample and encourage them to say more rules.
This activity provides opportunity to practice oral English and lead out the key vocabulary and the target language. Step 2 Reading and talking 1a
1. Say, you have many good ideas about the school rules, now let’s look at our books, see what it will tell us.
2. Read the list with the class. Then read the list again using simple explanations or acting out some rules to make clear the meaning of each one. e.g. ( Pointing at a watch, say, Class starts at 8:00. Don’t arrive late for class. Repeat. Don’t arrive late for class.)
3. Point out the students in the picture and the boxes next to them. Say, Each of these students is breaking one of the rules. Write the number of the rule each student is breaking in the box next to him or her.
4. Check the answers: 1) boy looking at his watch 2) boy running in the hallway
3) girl eating an apple 4) boy with headphones 5) boys sitting at desks, fighting
This activity makes the students have a further understanding on the key vocabulary and the target language.
Step 3 listening 1b
1. Point to the five rules in activity 1a. Ask a different student to read each rule to the class.
2. Point to the picture. Ask different students to say the rules that the students are breaking in the picture.
3. T: This conversation tells about three students. The students are breaking rules. (Pointing out the direction line and the space after each name.) Write the number of the rule next to the name of the student who is breaking the rule.
4. Play the recording for the first time and the Ss only listen.
5. Play the recording again and ask the Ss to write the numbers in each blank.
6.Correct the answers.Answers Peter:2 Selina:3 Nick:4 This activity gives students practice in understanding the target language in spoken conversation. Step 4 Pair work 1c
1. Tell the students today there comes a new student, he doesn’t know the school rules, please tell him or her the rules from activity 1.
2. Tell the students work in pairs (A will be the foreigner). Move around the class while they are working to monitor the activity and offer them any help they need. Then ask several pairs to present one or more of their conversations to the class .This activity provides guided oral practice using the target language.
Step 5 Competition between boys and girls. See who can say as many rules as
he/she can.
