1.The purpose and function of Ellipsis 省略的目的和功能

为了使语言简洁或避免重复, 人们常常把某些句子成分省略掉。被省略的部分可以是一些可用可不用的结构词或者是句子的主语、谓语、宾语、不定式等, 这种语法现象称为省略。功能:避免重复、突出新信息,使上下文紧密连接。

2. Ellipsis used in different kinds of components 各种句子成分的省略情况 (1)省略主语

① (you) Don't talk.

______句的主语_____通常省略。 ② (you) Go to my office after school. ③ ( I ) Haven't seen you for ages.

在口语中,当某些句子主语是___词时可以省略主语。 ④ (It / That) Sounds a good idea. ⑤ They took photos, (they)swam and (they) played on ground. ______句的主语相同时,

当主句是There/ Here be...或It be...等句型 ⑥ There is a man(who) wants to see you.

时,可省略___句的主语。 ⑦ It is every child(who) gets a chance like

that.

(2)省略谓语或谓语的一部分

____句的_____相同时,可省略后句 ① Some of us learn English; others(learn) French

的谓语。(有时需保留助动词) ② I have finished my paper and Bob have(finished)

too

(3)省略主语和谓语或主语和谓语的一部分 在不引起歧义的情况下,为使语言更加简洁明快,可省略 ① (Are you) Hungry ? 主语和谓语或主语和谓语的一部分。 ② (I want) Orange juice, please.

(4)省略宾语

① ——Do you know Mr. Li?

______句的___语中省略宾语。 ——Sorry, I don't know (him).

② Mr. Li teaches (us) grammar and

双宾语动词的______ 或______ .....writing.

可以省略掉一个 ③ I paid ( Peter) the money.

④ She washed (the shirt),

______语有相同的宾语时,除____________以外 ironed (the shirt), and folded the shirt. 的所有宾语都可省略。

3. [拓展内容] Ellipsis used in words 词的省略情况 (1)不定式的省略

① 在同一句或联系紧密的对话里 ,常把to后内容相同的部分省略。这种情况分两类。一、不定式在某些动词如___________________________等后作宾语时;二、不定式在某些形容词如_____________________等后作状语时。

Eg: I shall go if you wish me to ( go ). 如果你希望我去,我就去。 --- Will you join us in the game?

--- I'll be glad to ( join you in the game ).

② 主语部分有to do时,作表语的不定式通常省略不定式符号to.

Eg: What I want to do is ( to ) go with you. 我想做的事情就是跟你一起走。

③ 不定式作介词 but, except, besides 的宾语,前面又有实义动词do时,不定式的符号to要省略。

Eg: I have nothing to do but ( to ) wait for the No.609 bus.

④ 当两个或多个不定式并列时,其后的不定式符号to可以省略,但表示对比关系时不可省略。 Eg: I plan to visit her and ( to ) help her if she needs. It is easy to say than to do.

(2)状语从句的省略

在时间、条件、方式、地点和让步状语从句中,从句为It/ there或从句主语与主句主语一致, 且从句的谓语动词含有be动词时,可以把_________________省略。 Eg: Unless ( he is ) invited, he would not attend the meeting.

(3)定语从句的省略

在定语从句中,关系代词作___语可以省略;修饰way或reason的in which, that或why可以省略。 Eg: He is the student ( who / whom / that ) we are talking about. That is the way ( in which / that ) we solved the problem.

I don't know the reason ( why ) he was absent from the meeting.

(4)虚拟从句中if的省略

如果条件句的谓语有were, had, should时,可省略___ , 把_____________移到主语前面。 Eg: Were I you, I would do the work better.

(5)并列句中的省略

① 并列句中,后面句子中与前面句子中相同的部分,可以省略。

Eg: She has gone to the library, and they have (gone to the library). ② 有时并列连词可引起一个状语,其中省略了某些词。 Eg: We tried to help her but ( we tried ) in wain. Step 3 课后巩固练习

指导性写作: 急救措施之流鼻血紧急处理 一、【题目要求】:鼻子流血是日常生活中人们经常遇到的小问题。请结合下面要点,写一篇英语作文, 介绍对鼻子流血应采取的措施。

1. 鼻子流血时,应采用坐位或者站位,勿平躺,因为平躺后会使头部血压升高,更易出血。

2. 可用拇指和食指捏住两侧鼻翼,暂时用嘴呼吸;同时在前额敷上冷毛巾,一般冷敷10--30分钟。 【写作要求】

Sit up or stand, or your nose will worse because of the increasing blood pressure in your head. 3. 同时在前额敷上冷毛巾,冷敷10--30分钟。

At the same time, put a cold towel on your forehead, and do this for 10 to 30 minutes. 六、【连句成篇】 The nosebleed is a small accident that often happens in our daily life, so knowing how to

stop it is very necessary. Now we are going to learn something about what we can do to stop a nosebleed.

First of all, you should sit up or stand instead of lying down, or your nose will bleed worse because of the increasing of blood pressure in your head. Next, pinch both sides of your nose together between your thumb and forefinger and breathe through your mouth. At the same time, put a cold towel on your forehead, and do this for 10 to 30 minutes.

本单元学了有关急救的知识。现请你根据下表内容写一篇英语作文。 (1)9月6号,我的好朋友小华突然掉到河里了。他不会游泳。 (2)我马上跳到河里把他救起来,与此同时周围的其他人打电话叫救护车。 (3)虽然已经被救出了水面,但是他还是失去了知觉。 (4)我认为情况非常紧急,我们有必要马上对他进行急救。 (5)我把他的身体放平,用力按压他的胸口以排水(使他肺部、腹中的水排出)。 接着我给他做了人工呼吸,把空气吹入他的肺中。 (6)最后,由于正是我在学校学到的急救知识,我成功地帮助他恢复自然呼吸。 【写作要求】
