在否定和疑问句中，can表示可能性，有惊讶、怀疑、不相信之意，这时can与could没有时间上的差异,只是could 语气要轻一些。 E.g How can that be true? 那怎么可能是真的？
What you said could’t be true.你所说的不会是真的。 用could比用can 更加迟疑不决，没把握时用could. E.g Can I watche TV for a while, Mom?

当表示允许别人做某事时，用can而不用could.简而言之，回答could 问句，肯定回答 用can 不用could.
E.g-- Could I use your phone for a short time? 我可以用一会儿你的电话吗？ -- Yes,of course you can.
表示建议和请求。在语气上could比较客气，但can较肯定。 E.g I could/can do the paper work for you,if you are too busy. 如果你太忙，我来为你写这些东西。
