Welcome to the North Pole Adventure

The North Pole Adventure is a one-of-a-kind interactive Christmas attraction for the entire family. Unlike other Christmas attractions, it is open from November 25 until Christmas Eve. It is not a guided tour. While elves (小精灵) are throughout the adventure to interact with your children, your kids can spend as much time in each area as they wish. The adventure features a replica (复制品) of the North Pole including everything you imagine at Santa’s North Pole.

Santa’s House

Kids will experience what it’s like at the North Pole and see first-hand what it takes for Santa and his elves to get ready for Christmas each year. The memories your children will take away from Santa’s House will be ones they will remember for a life time.

Post Office

All kids will be assisted by Santa’s elves in writing a letter to Santa and then depositing it in Santa’s magical mailbox. A few days before Christmas, they will receive letters at their own homes from Santa.

Elf University

Elf University is the place where elves go to school. It’s also the place where kids enjoy making Christmas presents, coloring Christmas pictures, and even filling out applications to become elves one day.

Admission

Buy your tickets online to avoid waiting in line. If the tickets sell out when you buy them online, there will still be tickets available at the ticket office.

Morning Bus Ride

It is of great convenience for schoolers to take a school bus to school. However, ever since my older daughter began kindergarten, I have driven my daughters to school every single day. It was not to spoil (宠坏)them or

B. a science fiction

C. a newspaper

D.

because I feared the bus. It is because they have to be dropped off between 8:00-8:15a.m. and I have to be at work at 8:30a.m. It just made sense.

They both attended after-school care until they had enough after-school activities to take up their time. For these reasons, neither one rode the bus very much in elementary school- - only in the afternoon, and only once or twice a week.

Fourth grade Connie has always wanted to ride the bus more than she does. It seems fun, but she’s on there so rarely that the bus driver sometimes forgets her stop. This year, her long-time friend Alanna is riding the same bus, and Connie begged to start riding in the morning. I had no problem with that idea. She has to leave a few minutes earlier than I do, and since my older daughter has long been out the door by then, it gives me a little quiet time in the morning, even just 15minutes.

Last Thursday I realized for the first time she walked out the door, rode the bus to school, and returned home on her own. Now I realize that she’s nine years old and has long been capable of that, but circumstances mean she never has to. I’m glad she has this small opportunity for independence, but I am also feeling lucky that her bus ride is short, because I know riding the bus isn’t always as glamorous (魅力四射) as Connie imagines.

4.Why does the writer prefer driving her daughters to school? A. Because she is the bus driver herself. B. Because she likes to spoil them. C. Because taking the bus is not safe. D. Because she can do so on her way to work. 5.What’s the main idea of Para2?

A. The writer’s daughters like to attend after-school care. B. Children’s after-school activities are diverse.

C. Other reasons why the daughters seldom take the bus. D. The frequency the daughters attend after-school activities. 6.What can we know from the passage? A. Alanna is the writer’s little daughter. B. Connie has proved her independence. C. Connie has been spoiled by her mom. D. Alanna and Connie are classmates.

7.What’s Connie’s attitude to the bus ride to school? A. Disagreeable B. Fearful C. Interested D. Doubtful C

Saraswati Bai, a 75-year-old woman from India, says that she hasn’t consumed a grain of rice, or any other solid food in the last 60 years. Apart from one banana a week – eaten only now and then – she survives on water and tea alone.

Saraswati remembers that she used to have a normal diet until she got a typhoid (伤寒) infection, a few months after her first son was born. She couldn’t keep anything down and suffered severe stomach aches, so she gave up eating completely. As her condition improved, she started drinking tea, but her appetite never returned. Concerned about both her well-being and that of their son, her husband Dwarka Prasad Patikar, tried convincing (说服) her to start eating solid food, but she just couldn’t do it.

For a while, the woman’s even took her to several treatment centers, but nothing worked, and seeing that she seemed to be in good health, he eventually gave up. Saraswati went on to give birth to five more children, and also worked in the fields alongside her husband. Even today, at the age of 75, she still spends up to five hours a day tending to her family’s land.

Unsurprisingly, after reading Saraswati’s story in the papers, a lot of people found it hard to believe, but both her family and her neighbors in the village of Sundrail confirm her claims.

Mahendra Patidar, one of the woman’s sons, says that they have all got used to her eating habits, but remember their father’s attempts to get her to eat solid food. Ramesh Chandra, one of Saraswati’s neighbors, added that everyone was surprised and concerned when they first learned about her diet, but after seeing her in such good shape for her age, their attitudes changed. Now they all have a strong desire to be like her.

8.What has Saraswati Bai mainly been feeding on in the past six decades? A . Rice. B. Bananas. C. Water and tea. D. Solid food.

9.When did Saraswati Bai start her unusual diet? A. After being infected with typhoid. B. After giving birth to her eldest son. C. After having difficulty swallowing. D. After suffering a loss of appetite.

10.It can be known from Para 3 that Saraswati __________. A. once received systematic treatments B. works less in the fields due to her diet C. has brought up five children altogether D. is still very energetic now

11.What’s Saraswati’s neighbors’ present attitude towards her? A. Disapproving. B. Admiring. C. Uncaring. D. Doubtful.
