The two pie charts above explicitly display the
composition of three different distribution channels for a company as well as some of its variations during
the years from 1994 to 1995.
The panoramic view of the whole picture is out of question: the original lion’s share holder, large supermarket, not only maintains its leading place but also usurped/eroded more market territories from the runner up, small family shops, while the shares for other channels remain largely unchanged.
From the figures presented in the chart, sales from large supermarket underwent a double digit growth from 48.1% to 59.6%, most of whose increase derives from the losses of the small family shops which suffered a noticeable shrinkage from 46.5% to 35.3%, meanwhile other channels’ decline of 0.3% is almost negligible.
To sum up, among the three distribution channels, the big supermarkets’ expansion is robust and makes up the majority of the pie, on the contrary, small family shops
recessed strikingly, whereas other channels remain stable.
