School life in the UK
Good morning , judges,It’s my great honor to be here sharing my lesson with you. I’ll be ready to begin this lesson from four parts. Analysis of the teaching material, the analysis of the ss, the teaching methods and the teaching procedure. First let me talk about the teaching material
The selected teaching material is from the Reading section of Module1 unit of Advance with English. The article is from a school magazine written by an exchange student. After studying in the Uk, she gave us a brief but clear description about what school life in the Uk is like from her own experience. In a word, the passage covers almost every aspect of school life in the UK. After the students read this passage, they will have a general understanding of high school life from another culture.
As we all know, reading belongs to the input during the process of the language learning, the input has great effect on output, such as speaking and writing. Therefore, this lesson plays an important role in this unit.
According to the new standard curriculum and syllabus, after studying the teaching material, I think the teaching aims are the following.(根据新课标和教学法) 1) Knowledge objects
A. The ss can master the usage of the important words and expressions. B. The ss can know the attributive clauses.
C. The ss can understand the content of the lesson. 2) Ability objects
A. To develop the ss’ abilities of reading.
B. To teach ss reading strategies, including skimming and scanning. 3) Emotion or moral objects
A. To broaden ss’s view and help ss know the differences between the school life in the UK and in the China.
Now let’s come to the important points and difficulties.
1. To help the students to learn about the school life in the UK and get them to talk about the differences in the school life between the UK and China.
2. To help the students master the new words and expressions in this period.
Next, I want to talk about the students. This is the first reading lesson for the students, maybe they never read an article for so long. Since they have been studying for many years, the ss have known something about school life in China, while they may know a little about the school life in the UK. They must be interested in learning the differences. As for the senior one ss, they have a certain ability to read but they are lack of vocabulary. Besides, they don’t often use English to express themselves and communicate with others. Some Ss are not active in the class because they are afraid of making mistakes
To solve these problems, I’ll apply the following teaching methods in my teaching 1.Question-and-answer activity teaching method Lead ss to think and find the
answers by their own.
2.Free discussion method Give ss chances to discuss and express
3.“Communicative” Approach(交际教学法). Use English in the class as much as possible
4.“Task-based” language teaching (任务教学法). Offer the Ss an opportunity to complete the tasks in which Ss use language to achieve a specific outcome.
At the same time, I’ll make use of the modern electricity teaching equipments and all kinds of teaching means, it can develop the Ss creativity in learning English. 1. Basic learning strategy
The Ss can get the meaning of words and phrases. 2. Practice strategy
Practice can help the Ss get the general idea and have a better understanding of the language.
3.Communication strategy
Teach the Ss how to be successful language learners
Let the Ss pass “Observation- Imitation- Practice” strategy to study language. Next part, teaching procedure Step 1 lead in

Step3: Fast reading for general ideas
Play the tape of the play and ask the Ss to listen to it. Use the skimming and scanning strategies to go through the passage as quickly as possible and try to find answers to the three questions in Part A.
1.How long did Wei Hua stay in Britain? (For one year ) 2.What was the name of Wei Hua’s Class teacher? (Mr Heywood) 3.What did Wei Hua make in her Woodwork class? (A small table) Ask ss to check answers. Step4: Reading for details
1. Read the passage again and do some true or false exercises in C1 individually and If it is false, please try to correct it. Questions in Part C1 are to check ss’s ability to read and locate specific information.
2.go through the questions in C2 so that they know what to find out. Statements in Part C2 serve as a strengthening activity for ss’s comprehension of this passage. (First . Give them a chance to discuss with their partners if they want)
Step 4. Group work: what’s the similarity and difference between the schools in China and the UK? Aspects In the UK In China similarity difference Step 4 Summary and Homework
