June 8, 2011 Mr. Headmaster,
I am Li Yue, a student from Class 1, Senior II. I am writing to draw your attention to some improper behaviour among us students: littering and scribbling. It makes our school dirty and unpleasant, and does harm to the image of our school. I always feel ashamed whenever I see this. It is clearly not appropriate for a student to litter and scribble about. I wonder if the school could place more dustbins around and set up specific rules against such behaviour. At the same time, students should be encouraged to develop good habits and better behave themselves. I believe that, with the joint efforts of both teachers and students, our school will become a more enjoyable place in the near future.
Thank you for your consideration.

I was waiting on a wooden bench in the open courtyard of an old house, and seatednext to me was a girl in her early 20s. There was almost total silence around us. “I can’t believe I’m here,” the girl spoke up suddenly. I smiled back at her.We were in the house where Mother Teresa lived. The year was 1989.
Patricia was a student from America. She grew up reading about MotherTeresaand dreaming of meeting her some day. She had started saving, from her pocket money andearnings from summer jobs, for her trip to India. “This has been my dream,” she said, unableto contain her excitement.
She was called in. As I waited, I tried to think of something meaningful to say to Mother Teresa in the two minutes I would have with her. I had no idea how long I had spent lettingmy mind wander. Then I found Patricia was back. “How was it?” I asked her. But before shecould answer, it was already my turn.
I was standing before Mother Teresa. She came closer and smiled at me,“Let me bless you, my girl.” I looked at her gentle face and a warm rush filled me. Tears rolled down my cheeks, as 1 felt her hand on my head. I wanted to speak, but I stood there tongue-tied. MotherTeresa blessed me silently. When she was done, I reached for her hand and she let me hold it for a while. 1 realized my time was over. I managed to say “Thank you” somehow and left.
Patricia was waiting on the bench. We didn’t say a word to each other. We huggedeach other, overcome by our experience. We were strangers, worlds apart, bound together by a moment—the moment when Mother Teresa touched our lives and blessed us. 21. What was Patricia’s dream? A. To work in America.

In the near future,IoT(Internet of Things) will drive huge innovation (革新) in the way our food is grown. Plants will have a“voice”, not a human voice, but a voice based on data that can tell people, computers, and machines when, for example, they are thirsty, or need more sun, medicine, etc.
Take vertical (垂直的) farms, for example. Farming is moving indoors where the growth of plants can be monitored and controlled. The facilities are built vertically, so growing areas can be put in piles. This greatly reduces the amount of land needed for farming.
From an IoT point of view, vertical farms are connected in two ways. First, smallsensors (传感器) in the soil or connected to plants tell a control system exactly how much light, water, and nutrients are needed to grow the healthiest crops. Sensors will also tell vertical farmers when crops are nearing their peak for harvesting at justthe right time to make sure it’s still fresh when it reaches its final destination.
Second, vertical farms will be connected to other networks and information systems, including databases that track local demand. For example, local restaurants may input when they need fresh food supplies. And vertical farmers could access that information so they know which crops to grow in what quantities. This type of IoT system would have been unimaginable a generation ago.
Today, vertical farms are in a state of being experimented. Yet, the numbers point to a bright future for the industry, especially as the world’s population continues to grow. For example, Green Sense Farms in Chicago is able to harvest crops 26 times a year using 85 percent less energy, one-tenth the water, and no pesticides. A side benefit of lower energy use is lower CO2 output of two tons per month, with the added benefit of creating 46 pounds of oxygen every day. 24. What is the main idea of the text? A. Voice machines help plants speak up.
B. Farmers are all turning to vertical farming.
C. IoT has brought great innovation to our future life. D. Vertical farms driven by IoT are a future for agriculture. 25. How do sensors attached to plants work? A. By recording farmers harvesting crops. B. By monitoring farmers working their fields. C. By analyzing information to preserve crops. D. By passing information on to a control system.
26. According to Paragraph 4, the IoT system can help ________.
A. expand the output of crops B. match supply with demand D. move restaurants onto farms
C. determine the needs of farmers
27. What is the author’s attitude towards the future of vertical farming? A. Negative.
B. Reserved.
C. Optimistic.

Mirroring body language is a way to bond. It is a nonverbal way to say “I am like you. I feel the same”. When people see you mirroring them, they get the message that you feel what they feel. Researches show that people who experience the same emotion (情绪) are likely to experience mutual trust, connection and understanding.
Many women have the natural ability to pick up body signals. Therefore, it is not surprising that a woman is more likely to mirror another woman, than a man is to mirror another man. If you observe one woman talking to another, it will seem to you that the situations or events that she is talking about, are happening to both of them. This is because of the facial expressions that the listener will mirror. It is interesting that a man who makes a point of mirroring a woman’s facial expression while she is talking, will be described by her as caring, intelligent and attractive.
Men, however, generally prefer an emotionless mask that allows them to feel in controlof the situation. This doesn’t mean they don’t experience emotions. Theyjust prefer to hide their emotions behind their masks. The key to mirroring a man is realizing that he doesn’t usehis face to express his attitudes. He uses his body instead. If you are a woman, you don’treally need to mirror a man’s facial expressions. And do not try to mirror what you think he is feeling, because if you get it wrong he will think you are silly.
Mirroring body language and facial expressions is just one part of a much bigger story. People also mirror voices, intonations and accents. If you want to establish a connection with a new person, mirror his or her posture, gestures, sitting position, tone of voice and talking pace. This will make them feel that there is something about you that they like. This is because they will see in you their own reflection (映像).
28. When copying others’body language, one is likely to _______. A. win others’ trust C. send wrong messages
B. hide true emotions
D. avoid verbal communication
D. Doubtful.
29. Who probably exhibits WRONG mirroring behavior? A. A women mirroring another woman.
B. A woman mirroring a man’s facial expressions. C. A man mirroring a woman’s facial expressions.
