一些词和词组的用法。
1. follow 通常做动词,表示“跟随,听从,注意,听清”。
例如:
I followed him up the hill. 我跟着他上山。
You should follow the doctor’s advice. 你应该听医生的忠告。
We shall closely follow the development of the situation. 我们将密切注意形势的发展。
Did you follow what the teacher said? 你听清老师说什么了吗?
常见的词组有as follows。

2. all the time 表示“一直,总是”。
例如:
Why are you making the same mistakes all the time? 为什么你总是在犯同样的错误?
3. rush for something表示“迫切需要,抢购,蜂拥前往”。在西方国家,圣诞节前的购买热潮被称之为“the Christmas rush”
4. turn 可以作为不及物动词,表示“变成,(树叶等)变色,变质”等。
例如:
When autumn comes, the leaves turn yellow. 秋天到来的时候,树叶变黄。
Her face turned red when the teacher praised her. 老师夸奖她时,她的脸红了。
5. sell something for ? 以??价格售出某物
sell out 售完,卖光
6. fine 除了作为形容词表示“美好的,优良的,杰出的,精美的”,还可以做名词表示“罚款,罚金”,另外还能作为动词表示“罚款”。
例如:
Don’t spit around, otherwise, you’ll be fined. 不要随地吐痰,否则你会被罚款。
7. harm 可以做动词或名词使用,表示“损害,伤害,危害”。 例如:
Where’s the harm in trying? 试试又何妨?
Doing exercise will do you no harm. 锻炼对你没害处。
8. continue 是动词,表示“继续,延续”。
例如:
To be continued. 未完待续。
The rain continued for a week. 雨连续下了一周。
9. whether 表示“是否,是不是”,是一个连词,它和if一样都可以引导宾语从句,这两个引导词常常可以交换使用。但是当宾语从句有or not等选择部分时,从句的引导词只能用whether。另外,if还可以引导条件状语从句,而whether没有此功能。
例如:
I wonder if/whether you will come and join us. 我想知道你会不会来。
No one knew whether that wallet was Mary’s or Frank’s. 没人知道钱包是玛丽的还是弗兰克的。
If he arrives home, please let me know. 他到家了请通知我。
