On January 18, a 12-man Chinese team landed on the Antarctic icecap peak(南极冰盖最高点). They are the first people to reach the peak of Dome A(海穹A). It is 4039 meters above sea level(平面).

The team built a station there to study the changes of the weather, to get ice samples(标本) from 150 meters to 200 meters below, and to do other studies. So far, the team has got nearly 100-meter-long ice samples from a place about 300 meters under the icecap peak.

It is the first time that people have been able to get samples from the icecap peak in Antarctic and it is very important for people to study the weather changes and environmental changes in this area.

The Chinese scientists also built a weather study system at the peak. The system can send out information about temperature, how strong the wind is, and many other things about the weather.

The Antarctic icecap makes up (组成) 70% of the earth’s fresh water(淡水). By studying Dome A, scientists can get the lowest temperature of the earth and other information about the world’s weather changes. We can’t get this information from other places on the earth because Dome A is the best place for this kind of studies. So it is very important to land on the peak of Dome A. 49. We all know that lying(撒谎) is wrong. But do you know that it is bad for both your physical (身体的) and mental (心理的) health?

A recent study shows that telling fewer lies helps people physically and mentally.

“Each week for ten weeks, 110 people aged from 18 to 71 were tested to see the relationship between the number of lies they told and their health,” said Anita Kelly, a professor at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. “When they lied more, their health declined(下降),” said Kelly.

Researchers divided the people into two groups. Group A was told to avoid telling any lie for any reason to anyone. They may omit (忽略) the truth, refuse to answer questions, and keep secrets, but they can’t say anything that they know are not true. Group B was not told anything like this. Over the study period, when people in Group A told fewer lies in a week than they did in other weeks, they experienced fewer health problems such as sore throats and headaches. Professor Linda Stroh said, “When you find that you don’t lie, you have less stress (压力).”

The results of past research show that each American tells about 11 lies a week. In both groups, when people lied less during a week, they reported better physical and mental health during that period.

“It’s certainly a good thing to have people be more honest,” said Robert Feldman of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. “It may improve our mental health, but I don’t think it can improve our physical health.”

53. From the third paragraph, we can learn that ________. A. the test continued for no more than one month B. older people lie less than younger people C. the number of lies one tells can affect one’s health D. many people feel sick when they don’t tell lies 54. According to Linda Stroh, __________.

A. mental health is more important than physical health B. when people don’t lie, they feel more relaxed C. to be honest can’t improve our physical health D. telling lies is necessary sometimes

55. We would most probably find this passage _______. A. on a travel website C. in a health magazine

B. in a storybook

D. in a cookbook

forty knife quiet herself drive 56. Today is my mother’s ___________ birthday. I will buy her a gift. 57. It’s dangerous to __________ a car after you get drunk.

I love my mom and dad, especially 61 (他们的) hugs(拥抱). I want to tell all 62 (父母) in the world: hug your kids every chance you get. I love the way my mom gives me a gentle and warm hug when I’m sad. Every night she gives me a hug that 63 (帮助) me sleep better. Every day when I 64 (到达) home, my mom gives me a warm hug. Her hug tells me she loves me and is 65 (自豪) of me . One of my 66 (最喜欢的) parts of the day is when my dad comes home from work. My sister and I 67 (都) jump into our dad’s arms. While we’re hugging , I always yell, “ You’re squashing (挤碎) me!” Then he puts us down and asks us 68 (带着) a smile how school is and what’s for dinner. When mom comes out of the kitchen , he gives mom a hug, 69 (也). That’s the 70 (幸福的) time for our family! 六、任务型阅读。

We need to be responsible (有责任的) for our environment . Being a frugal consumer(节俭的消费者) is one way to help. But , what exactly does that mean? Use It Up

You can use things up instead of wasting them. Squeeze that last bit of toothpaste out of the rube. Use the last little piece of soap. Don’t throw away any bits of the biscuit at the bottom of the box.

Wear It Out

You do not always need to have new things. Suppose your sneakers have broken laces, but they still

fit you. Repair them and wear them longer. You don’t have to have the latest IPhone until the old one doesn’t work any more. Then you can get a new one. Think twice before replacing something that still works. Make It Do

When something you want to is not on hand, look for something else

that you already have to take its place. Suppose you are packing your lunch for tomorrow and want a butter sandwich . You are out of butter. Have a cheese sandwich instead so that you can use all of the cheese. Learn to fix broken boys instead of just throwing them away. With a little thought, you can make something do, instead of buying something new. Do Without

Think about all those things that you would like to have. Do you really need them ? How long will you really play with that new toy you saw on TV? Making the things that we want uses up our world’s resources(资源). And , getting rid of the things we don’t want any more takes up even more resources and space.

71. It is _______________ for us to help our environment when we are consuming (消费) .
