(2019·广东七校联合体高三第一次联考)“You’ll be blind by the time you’re twenty-five，” a doctor at Children’s Hospital predicted. “Your blood sugar is much too high．” It consumed me. No matter where I was or what I was doing, it was overhead like a dark cloud, just waiting for the right opportunity to destroy my world. I liked painting. Losing myself in painting filled me with peace. Painting provided me with the only place where I could escape from those threatening words.
When I was twenty-one, my right eye went blind. Precisely three months after my twenty-fifth birthday, I had a massive hemorrhage(大出血) in my left eye because of an accident．For the next twenty years, vision came and went. I went through many eye operations in an attempt to keep my vision. But after one final operation, I lost the battle and all remaining vision. And I buried all dreams of painting.
Desperate, I enrolled in(注册) a sixteen-week program for the blind and visually impaired(受损的). I learned personal adjustment and the use of a computer with adaptive software. A whole new world opened up to me through this program.
“JAWS and Window-Eyes are leading software for the blind，” my instructor told me. “You can use the Internet, e-mail and Microsoft with all its tools and features．” It’s amazing! Hope went up for the first time in years．“By learning how to use hot keys to control the mouse, you can use Microsoft Access, Excel and Powerpoint，” my instructor added.
For the next several years, I learned that when one door closes, another door opens. There are plenty of choices available for the blind and visually impaired through the gift of technology. Not only do I have a speaking computer, but I have a speaking watch, alarm clock and calculator.

(2019·桂林、百色、崇左联考)By trying to tickle(使发痒) rats and recording how their nerve cells respond, Shimpei Ishiyama and his adviser are discovering a mystery that has puzzled thinkers since Aristotle expected that humans, given their thin skin and unique ability to laugh, were the only ticklish animals.
It turns out that Aristotle was wrong. In their study published on Thursday, Ishiyama and his adviser Michael Brecht found that rats squeaked and jumped with pleasure when tickled on their backs and bellies. These signs of joy changed according to their moods. And for the first time, they discovered a special group of nerve cells. These nerve cells made this feeling so powerful that it causes a rat being tickled to lose control.
To make sure that he had indeed found a place in the brain where tickling was processed, Ishiyama then

stimulated(刺激) that area with electrical currents. The rats began to jump like rabbits and sing like birds.
“It’s truly ground-breaking，” said Jeffrey Burgdorf, a neuroscientist at Northwestern University who reviewed the paper．“It takes the study of emotion to a new level．”
Burgdorf has played a central role in our understanding of animal tickling. He was part of a team that first noticed, in the late 1990s, that rats made special noises when they were experiencing social pleasure. Others had already noted that rats repeatedly made short and high sounds during meals. But the lab where Burgdorf worked noticed that they emitted similar sounds while playing. And so one day, the senior scientist in the lab said, “Let’s go and tickle some rats．” They quickly found that those cries of pleasure doubled.
“The authors have been very adventurous，” said Daniel O’Connor, a neuroscientist at Johns Hopkins University. To him, that finding was very surprising.
“Why does the world literally feel different when you are stressed out？” he said．“This is the first step towards answering that question. It gives us a way to approach it with experimental rigor(严谨)．”
