People need encouragement and motivation to perform well.However, the carrot only really works well with employees who have already proved themselves.If you’ve got someone who can’t show up at the office before noon, the promise of a raise isn’t going to do much.On the contrary, if there’s a guy with a good work moral, he’ll thrive (grow stronger) when you add a promotion to the picture.

The stick

When considering the carrot or the stick in the office, remember that, overall, the stick is the more practical method in the office.A wise man, who just happened to be an Italian once said “It’s best to be both loved and feared.”It’s nice to have everyone love you，but running a business isn’t like running a family.You need to have the stick constantly raised.

When it comes to marriage，always use the carrot.I’ve had a lovely marriage for many years，and I’ve always stuck to the carrot approach.Sometimes you catch more flies with honey，and sometimes

According to a research，the average person has in fact twice as many online friends as physical ones.Users of social-networking sites have on average 121 online friends as compared with physical ones.The study also claims that people tend to be more open，confident and honest with their virtual friends than their “real” ones.

“For most people，the Internet is a way of keeping in touch with loved ones and friends，but for people who are isolated(隔离的) due to illness，it plays a more vital role，and can often act as a lifeline，” says Helen Oxley，a psychologist at Wythenshawe hospital.

“People with illnesses often rely on the Internet to facilitate(促进) friendships，since they blog and use networking sites as a way of dealing with their illness.It can foster(培养) a sense of social connection for those who frequently feel isolated，which is important to psychological well-being.”

In wider society，the ways in which friendships are formed are changing，with people recognizing that they can develop deep and meaningful connections with others that they’ve never met，and may never meet.About one in 10 people has either met their best friends online，or believes they can make lifelong friends on the Web.

French explorer Jacques Cartier is known mainly for exploring the St.Lawrence River and giving Canada its name.

Like many other European explorers,Jacques Cartier went to North America looking for gold,and perhaps a shortcut to Asia. 8 It became France’s main route into Canada.
