Volunteer work plays an important role in America’s high school education. Great numbers of high school students take part in volunteer work in order to have a bright future. Volunteer work is an important part of the college (大学) application.

High school students find that whether they have much volunteer experience or not is an

important factor (因素). A famous American university once enrolled (招收) a girl who

successfully sold a great deal of girl scout cookies (女童军饼干). Instead of selling the cookies in front of supermarket or from door to door, the girls walked into a big company (公司) and asked to see the CEO (总裁). Beginning with the good taste of her cookies, she told him how the money would be used to help poor children and how the company would benefit (受益) if he bought her cookies. At last, she won praise from both the CEO and the headmaster of the university.

Volunteering is a great preparation for future careers. Five days after Kymberly Bays has

finished a high school, she started a travel to Africa for six weeks to be a volunteer teacher at a poor school.
