The Intergovernmental Panel(小组)on Climate Change released(发布)the report in Paris at a conference of climate experts. Representatives of more than one hundred governments agreed on the findings. This is the most detailed scientific report on global warming and the influence of fossil—fuel(矿物燃料)burning and other human activity.
The scientists say there is greater than a ninety percent chance that greenhouse gases are the main cause of rising temperatures and sea 1evels.The report also 1inks global warming to other changes including increased dryness in some areas and violent storm patterns.
The UN panel released its last climate change report six years ago.The scientists say the new report is based on a lot of studies done since then, and stronger agreement on global warming.
The new report makes no policy suggestions. But the aim is to persuade governmerits and industries to cut emissions(排放)of carbon dioxide and other gases blamed for trapping heat.

B Everyone wondered how we are able to conduct a conversation at a noisy party. Researchers from Japan,Canada and Germany have found that it is our left brain that picks out the desired sounds from a cacophony(杂音)of loud, competing sounds. “In daily life,we are always exposed to several noises at the same time and we have to pick up important signals, for example, speech sounds, from the background noises,”wrote researcher Ryusuke Amiga from Japan’s National Institute for Physiological Sciences. “We found that the left hemisphere(大脑半球)is generally dominant(占支配 地位的)for auditory(听觉的J processing in noisy environments,”he said.
It is well known that speech signals are processed in the left brain. But this
study, led by Hidehiko()kamoto and Christo Pantev at the Uniw:rsity of Muenster in Germany。promotes our understanding of how the human brain is able to zero in on the specific sounds it wants and process them. In the latest issue of the online journal, the scientists said they used neuroimaging and observed neural(神经的)mechanisms in volunteers who were exposed to different combinations of tests and background sounds.
“Test sounds were played either to the 1eft or to the right ear, while the competing noise was presented either to the same or to the opposite ear,”they wrote.
“By monitoring(监测)the brain’s response to these different sound combinations.the team observed
